Dear Sirs, I've obtain some things... May be some problems were made by my own building or by incorrect settings After upgrade from 1.2b1 to 1.2rc1 my system (usb-disk based) become "painly" slow. It's may be only my subjective impression. "free" shows that I have only 32 Mb used from 512 available. I would be very appreciated for explaining where the changes decreasing memory use were made. I'll try to do same experiments. I'm going to create a heavy loaded router, so the speed reason is very important for me. Ideally, I suppose to put the whole system into memory (ram disk). The custom version of DL what I have is approximately 60-70Mb , and it's quite a cheap on today's memory coast. So, my idea to put system on cd, but in one-iso-file mode (like usb-disk), not a file-tree mode as now, and mount it through loop into ram disk( my old cd is doubtful and slow and I'm afraid to use it permanently). Is it possible? I'm not feel sheer determination to do it single, because my knowledge is very poor. But I would be glad to try, especially if a somebody could help me by advising or links to examples. About VLAN. As I can see VLANs were upped by /etc/init.d/network twice - the first time was all correct, the second were errors. It is reasonable because interfaces were created already. It's a cosmetic changes only, because VLANs set and work fine. The settings of my test network > root@Deviant:/shm/etc/init.d # ls -l /etc/sysconfig/nic/* > -rw------- 1 root root 159 Sep 23 2004 /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-eth0 > -rw------- 1 root root 107 Sep 23 16:46 /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-eth1 > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 82 Sep 23 16:51 /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-vlan223 > -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 83 Sep 23 16:52 /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-vlan851 > root@Deviant:/shm/etc/init.d # cat /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-eth1 | grep -v -e "^#" > DEVICE=eth1 > ONBOOT=yes > MODULE="3c59x" > DHCP=no > IP=0.0.0.0 > root@Deviant:/shm/etc/init.d # cat /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-vlan223 | grep -v -e "^#" > DHCP=no > ONBOOT=yes > DEVICE=eth1 > VLANID=223 > IP=21x.xx.xx.11 > NETMASK=255.255.255.248 > BROADCAST=2xx.xx.xx.15 > root@Deviant:/shm/etc/init.d # cat /etc/sysconfig/nic/ifcfg-vlan851 | grep -v -e "^#" > DHCP=no > ONBOOT=yes > DEVICE=eth1 > VLANID=851 > IP=1x.1xx.2xx.6 > NETMASK=255.255.255.248 > BROADCAST=1xx.1xx.2xx.7 Output of /etc/init.d/network restart : > root@Deviant:/shm/etc/init.d # /etc/init.d/network restart > Stopping interface vlan223 [ OK ] > Removing vlan #223 from physical interface eth1 [ OK ] > Stopping interface vlan851 [ OK ] > Removing vlan #851 from physical interface eth1 [ OK ] > Stopping interface eth0 [ OK ] > Stopping interface eth1 [ OK ] > Starting interface eth0 [IPv4] [ OK ] > adding route to net default/0.0.0.0 via gateway 192.168.0.128 on eth0 > Starting interface eth1 [IPv4] [ OK ] > Setting vlan #223 on physical interface eth1 [ OK ] > Starting interface vlan223 [IPv4] [ OK ] > Setting vlan #851 on physical interface eth1 [ OK ] > Starting interface vlan851 [IPv4] [ OK ] > Setting vlan #223 on physical interface eth1ERROR: trying to add VLAN #223 to IF -:eth1:- error: Invalid argument > [ OK ] > Starting interface vlan223 [IPv4] [ OK ] > Setting vlan #851 on physical interface eth1ERROR: trying to add VLAN #851 to IF -:eth1:- error: Invalid argument > [ OK ] > Starting interface vlan851 [IPv4] [ OK ] > Enabling Routing [IPv4] [ OK ] > Disabling ECN [ OK ] -- Best regards, Serge mailto:se...@nn... |
