A couple suggestions sent to me privately. Thoughts? - BS -----Forwarded Message----- ... somebody other might also have the same scenario and would like to mount a share through a firewall. so a good thing would be mount.davfs (http://dav.sourceforge.net/) as you can use it to mount a share on a DAV-enabled Webserver and usually port 80 or 443 is open on a firewall. there is also an interesting kernel patch (http://shfs.sourceforge.net/) with which you can mount a filesystem over ssh. when setting up dovecot in the release 1.0.5a I noticed the following: dovecot always checks for new mail in /var/spool/mail while postfix saves mails in the jail in /var/spool/postfix/var/mail. It was of no use to change the environment variable for MAIL to /var/spool/postfix/var/mail, dovecot didn't bother. As it would be to risky to lose the mailboxes after a reboot, I wanted to save the mbox persistently. So I have extended the /etc/init.d/postfix so that when giving it the start argument it mounts a share to /var/spool/postfix/var/mail, then I have to chmod (otherwise dovecot has not sufficient privs) this directory and last I symlink /var/spool/mail to /var/spool/postfix/var/mail. As I have the user-homes set to /mnt where I also mounted a drive I have a perfect mailsystem without any data loss. As soon as I can mount samba-shares instead of /dev/hda1 and /dev/hda2 my proxy server can die and I can just take another cheapo computer and start devil-linux. I love it. same thing I did with the squid cache and logs, so the cache hasn't to be rebuilt after a reboot. |
