Because it re-executes the program every time you press "select".

Nah, it sucks.  You know it, I know it, I suspect others know it too. :)

I've thought about rewriting it to use the "dialog" I use in the "setup"
program, but that sounds like a lot of work, and there is other stuff
I'd rather do first.  Maybe someday ...
