[Devil-linux-develop] less / more ...

Anyone know how to get "less" or "more" to work in a script called 
from pre_init?   They are acting like it's a non-interactive shell.

I've tried exporting:  LINES COLUMNS TERM PS1 PS2
I've tried running the script (which calls less/more)
by name and with "bash -<options> script" trying all 
combinations of the bash options:  "i" "l" "c"

I'm running out of ideas ...
