Hi Serge, I have 2 questions regarding this... *) will VPN with MS clients work without the mppc/mppe module? *) I remember trying IAS a long time ago, and I didn't really like it, but I can't recall why.... Doesn't it need the user's password to be stored in a special way in AD to work? Thanks a lot, Frank Serge Leschinsky wrote: > Hi Frank, > > On 11/27/2009 07:17 AM, Frank Weis wrote: >> Hi all, >> >> I am testing pptp authentication against an AD backend with pppd's >> winbind plugin.. Hi Frank, On 11/27/2009 07:17 AM, Frank Weis wrote: > Hi all, > > I am testing pptp authentication against an AD backend with pppd's > winbind plugin.. (I use this without trouble on several DL-1.2.x > releases...) Do you use mppc patch for DL 1.4? I see the latest mppe-mppc patch was from you. I haven't tested it, but all my attempts to adapt mppc caused the same result - oops in mppe_mppc module. If it's not critical, I'd suggest omitting this patch. I have the similar setup but pptpd authenticates against AD via RADIUS (IAS service). It works. Serge |

Hi all, I am testing pptp authentication against an AD backend with pppd's winbind plugin.. (I use this without trouble on several DL-1.2.x releases...) The authentication part seems to work alright, but the kernel is oopsing on me. I don't have the slightest clue how to tackle this problem, but I'll gladly provide any info that might help.... Heiko, Let me check it first, I have HP 8xCPU and 16GB RAM in the staging area. iso will be done in a day and I'll share the results of testing. basically, the only concern I have is performance degradation.... http://people.redhat.com/nmurray/RHEL-2.1-VM-whitepaper.pdf • What is the overhead, in terms of space and time, of using a PAE enabled kernel as compared to an SMP kernel? .... The performance impact is highly workload dependent, but on a fairly typical kernel compile, the PAE penalty works out to be around a 1% performance hit on Red Hat’s test boxes. Testing with various other workload mixes has given performance hits ranging from 0% to 10%. I didn't know syslinux did that. ;-) Anyway, having more than one Kernel available doesn't fit into the current DL design and would need some major changes to the build system. I'm not willing to do that right now, since I really would like to officially release 1.4 at some point. > This is really important that I get this, whether it be an official > release, or otherwise I can build my own kernel. I would guess that lilo and grub both have that ability as well. This is really important that I get this, whether it be an official release, or otherwise I can build my own kernel. Yeah, I saw that quoted information. Is the kernel too large to include one with PAE and one without in the iso? I use FINNIX a lot for administration, and it includes two kernels (I think 32bit and AMD64), and the size of their image is only about 180 MB. Or maybe you should take a poll of your users to see how many have machines that are incompatible with PAE. By the way, where is RC2? I see reference to it, but I have not seen any downloads available. Is it not complete? -Brad On Wed, Nov 18, 2009 at 7:31 AM, Heiko Zuerker <he...@zu...> wrote: >> -----Original Message----- >> From: Serge Leschinsky [mailto:fi...@in...] >> Sent: Wednesday, November 18, 2009 2:01 AM >> To: dev...@li... >> Subject: Re: [Devil-Linux-discuss] PAE Kernel >> >> On 11/17/2009 03:23 PM, Bradlee Landis wrote: >> > I have a server with 8GB of memory, but I'm only seeing 4GB. @Frank, We also are using the NexCom servers with those buttons. We're not doing anything with the buttons though, just the display. @Heiko, with our current setup, it's not easy to update anyways (it's a stretch to even get my boss to move to 1.4RC1 from 1.2.15... if it wasn't required that we use the e1000e module on new servers, we'd still be with the old version). If the actual release was out, we might would go with that one for security's sake. LCDProc hasn't been updated since 2007, so if it works that would be great. I haven't seen many options available. I will add something to the bug tracker though, and if I find anything else, I will add a comment there. Hi all, as far as I can see, neither lcd4linux nor LCDproc is actively maintained..... It's a pity because I have +- 40 NexCom appliances sporting such a Display with a 4 button keypad (up, down, enter, escape). The display is supported, the buttons are not... I talked this over with a colleague, whether it were worthwile to dig into this and provide some functionality to local admins via this interface.... we came to the conclusion that we'd rather develop some kind of shell application if need be.... Here's why (out of the Kernel config help): --------snip----------- If more than 4 Gigabytes is used then answer "64GB" here. This selection turns Intel PAE (Physical Address Extension) mode on. PAE implements 3-level paging on IA32 processors. PAE is fully supported by Linux, PAE mode is implemented on all recent Intel processors (Pentium Pro and better). NOTE: If you say "64GB" here, then the kernel will not boot on CPUs that don't support PAE! --------snap----------- Heiko |
