I would like to try this but I need i386 server build. (My hardware supports x64 but I can't install it because install-on-usb crashes on trying to install x64 build from a i386-running system.) Hi Heiko, yes, that does it! (you need to add the flag to the libipvs/Makefile, too). Another thing that is 'new' in that context: we needed to export PERL_LWP_SSL_VERIFY_HOSTNAME=0 somewhere, otherwise SSLeay complains about certificate verification errors. I'm not sure if there is a way to avoid this kind of mismatch when you use ldirectord to redirect https to a battery of backends. Anyway, we put the environment variable in ldirectord's init.d script. I don't know if that should be there by default, or how to make this bit of trivia known to fellow users... I'll submit my modifications to save-config later on, along with a bunch of other trivial mods (we implemented the status option to some init.d script (named, openvpn, ldirectord, httpd, nrpe, firewall and xntpd) as we have built a really cool heartbeat2 cluster :-) Don't expect this before a few weeks though, as I'm pursuing a different mission now (vacation ;-)) Thanks and all the best, Frank On Fri, 2013-08-16 at 07:49 -0500, Heiko Zuerker wrote: > Hey, > > Please let us know if Serge's suggestion fixes the problem, so we can > incorporate it into the main version. > > Best Regards > Heiko Zuerker > > -----Original Message----- > From: Serge Leschinsky [mailto:ser...@gm...] > Sent: Monday, August 12, 2013 11:21 PM > To: Fra...@ct...; dev...@li... > Subject: Re: [Devil-Linux-discuss] ipvsadm stack smashing? > > > heh.... most probably it's the build script issue... Hi guys, I'm a bit panicking here, I am upgrading DL boxes from 1.4.something to 1.6.3, and I have the following error: seventy-five-1:~# ipvsadm -L IP Virtual Server version 1.2.1 (size=4096) Prot LocalAddress:Port Scheduler Flags -> RemoteAddress:Port Forward Weight ActiveConn InActConn *** stack smashing detected ***: ipvsadm terminated ======= Backtrace: ========= /lib/libc.so.6(__fortify_fail+0x50)[0xa62e8880] /lib/libc.so.6(+0xe482a)[0xa62e882a] ipvsadm(+0xac94)[0x1aee8c94] ipvsadm(+0x9c11)[0x1aee7c11] I have (rapidly) tried 1.6.4 as well as 1.6.2, same error. Am I missing something obvious? TIA Frank |

Hi Serge (again), and thanks for your reply! conntrackd is nice but I don't need that feature right now. I have a bunch of resources (IP addresses, iptables script, openvpn, apache, ldirectord, named,..) that run on an active/passive DL tandem. If that state table is not synced between them and clients loose the connection, or openvpn clients need to (transparently) reconnect, that's fine with me (I expect to need to failover maybe twice a year). I just want the high availability in case a powersupply dies on a Friday night :-) One of the things I need in order to get there is keep the config files synced, so csync2 would be nice, but I'm open to any suggestions.. Depending on which service do you have as a back-end, you can use LVS, HTTP-reverse proxies etc. Everything works perfectly :) Thanks, Serge |

Hi, I dont know if this has been discussed here before, but I need/want to run DL boxen in a cluster (active/passive, with IP addresses and a few services being switched around in case of a (hardware) failure). I see that there is heartbeat-2 available on DL. Is anyone doing similar stuff with DL? Any hints would be appreciated! Thanks and have a nice week-end, Frank |

Making a custom Devil Linux 1.6.3 boot CD for a network gateway --------------------------------------------------------------- Boot Devil Linux 1.6.3 CD made from downloaded .iso on machine with spare harddrive. I used an old 4G, freshly formatted with ext3. Log in as root, run setup save-config -d /dev/fd0 save-config -d /dev/hda1 The result is that the configuration that works is in /etc-mods.tar.bz2 on floppy and harddrive. I am about to make a CD that boots to that configuration. I'll then disconnect the harddrive and have a read-only, unmodifiable gateway. The booted system is mostly read-only, but /shm can be modified. Create mount points mkdir /shm/FLOP mkdir /shm/4G mkdir /shm/ISO mkdir /shm/CDRW mkdir /shm/8G Find USB flash drive ls /dev/disk/by-label (my flash drive's label is 8G-KGHN) Mount devices for use mount /dev/hdc /shm/CDRW (the Devil Linux CD) mount /dev/fd0 /shm/FLOP (the floppy, disk must be seated when mounting, optional) mount /dev/hda1 /shm/4G (my 4G harddrive, ext3 format OK, not vfat) /shm/ISO will be used by script, no manual mount needed. mount /dev/disk/by-label/8G-KGHN /shm/8G (USB flash drive, optional) Set up harddrive with files to be written to the new .iso mkdir /shm/4G/NEW mkdir /shm/4G/NEW/config (where configuration file is on CD) mkdir /shm/4G/NEW/boot (wanted by script) mkdir /shm/4G/NEW/doc (wanted by script) Don't add /shm/4G/TEMP because the script wants to create it, and complains if it's there already. cp /shm/4g/etc-mods.tar.bz2 /shm/4G/NEW/config cp /shm/4g/etc-mods.tar.bz2 /shm/4G/NEW (redundant copy in root of CD, may be optional) Make .iso creation environment ready Copy the script to the writable harddisk for editing cp /config/scripts/custom-cd /shm/4G custom-cd script uses mkzftree utility. It is not on the CD. The source files for it are on the Devil Linux website, so I copied zisofs-tools-1.0.8 into /shm/4G (cp -a) but ./configure gave error message that a suitable C compiler was not found. So... Use the flash drive to copy mkzftree from another 32bit Linux system that has zisofs-tools-1.0.8 to the same directory as the script that wants it. Note: 64bit binary gives error message "./mkzftree: cannot execute binary file" when the script is run cp -a /shm/8G/mkzftree /shm/4G Edit /shm/4G/custom-cd script vi /shm/4G/custom-cd Tell custom-cd where to find resources Path to bootcd.iso is /shm/4G (I copied it via flash drive from the computer that made the boot CD), so INPUT=/shm/4G/bootcd.iso ISO=/shm/4G/bootcdnew.iso MP="/shm/ISO" NEW=/shm/4G/NEW TEMP=/shm/4G/TEMP Correct obsolete parameters of mkisofs Modify -L parameter near end of shm/4G/custom-cd script to -allow-leading-dots Modify -P parameter near end of shm/4G/custom-cd script to -publisher Add ./ path to mkzftree to tell custom-cd where to find it ./mkzftree $TEMP $TEMP.z Copy notes on your progress to /shm/4G/NEW/doc if you want them on the finished CD Run the script cd /shm/4G ./custom-cd Copy the new .iso to the flash drive. Take it to the machine with the CD burner and burn it. Disconnect the harddrive, boot the CD, enjoy grc.com reporting perfect "TruStealth" rating. EOF. |

I have been experiencing great pain and anguish since upgrading the hardware of my DL-based server. Please can I request for the next release (final or testing) of DL: - if possible, add the r8168 network driver (available direct from Realtek at http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=13&PFid=5&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false), because the r8169 driver which is in the present release (and the kernel) has intermittent problems with Realtek RTL8168B-based chipsets - see http://unixblogger.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/the-pain-of-an-realtek-rtl8111rtl8168-ethernet-card/ - and/or upgrade the kernel beyond 3.5.1 (which may also fix some problems with r8169 when used with RTL8111/8168B- see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=839992) - on an unrelated note, while it would be great to have the latest samba v3 release (3.6.16 at present) please don't switch to samba v4, as this will not work with my setup (security=share is dropped in v4) Thanks for your help! Update: where I am now. I think these modules may be useful: http://ftp.devil-linux.org/pub/devel/sources/1.6/ cdrtools-2.01.01a80.tar.bz2 (has mkisofs) zisofs-tools-1.0.8.tar.bz2 (has mkzftree) I'm not sure how to add them to my system. Per http://linux.die.net/man/8/mkisofs, -L ...[is an] Outdated option reserved by POSIX.1-2001, use -allow-leading-dots instead. This option will get POSIX.1-2001 semantics with mkisofs-2.02. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The original problem, distilled: I'm trying to use custom-cd to make a Devil Linux 1.6.3 boot CD with my new configuration on it. On a computer booted with the Devil Linux 1.6.3 boot CD and equipped with an ext3 harddrive, the custom-cd script looks good until it says mkzftree not found ...A few other errors that probably are due to NEW/boot and NEW/dir directories being wanted. I'm trying to use custom-cd to make a Devil Linux 1.6.3 boot CD with my new configuration on it. Running custom-cd under Slackware 13 gave me trouble, so I booted the Devil CD on my new gateway/firewall machine with an old 4G harddrive installed. I set up mount points in /shm. I copied custom-cd to /dev/hda1 and edited it. I solved an initial problem by reformatting the harddrive from vfat to ext3. (cfdisk wouldn't cooperate, the drive kept reverting to vfat, so I booted a Linux Rescue CD and used GParted.) Now the script looks good until it says mkzftree not found ...A few other errors that probably are due to NEW/boot and NEW/dir directories being wanted. I just have NEW/config. Then... Bad Option '-L' (error -1 BADFLAG). Usage: mkisofs [options][-find] file... [find expression] mkisofs -version responds 2.01.01a79 c1993-1997 I haven't been able to find mkzftree on the CD, and it looks like a different version of mkisofs might be needed. I hope you can help me easily. My current Devil linux gateway/firewall has been very satisfactory, but is due for retirement so we can upgrade the network from 10 speed to 100 speed. I just re-subscribed to the Devil-linux-discuss mailings and can presumably receive an answer through the group by that route. Thanks, KGHN |

The French mirror "Institut Pierre-Simon Laplace - CNRS FTP" still does mirror Devil Linux and is reachable at this time. The French site "Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique - CNRS" does not have at this time the mirror tree for Devil-Linux. The other French sites are OK. Thanks guys for your replies. My particular problem was that I
needed a location available at boot-time before md assembles the
RAID1 array which contains the devil-linux VG. <br>
<br>
Background: <br>
<br>
I was trying to setup a RAID1 array combining SSD (/dev/sdb) as one
drive and conventional platter drive ('rust', /dev/sdc) as the
other, with this command:<br>
<br>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=ISO-8859-1">
<span class="CodeChar"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;
line-height:115%;mso-fareast-font-family:Calibri;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;
mso-bidi-font-family:"Times
New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;
mso-fareast-language:EN-US;mso-bidi-language:EN-US">mdadm -C
/dev/md0
--level=raid1 -n 2 /dev/sdb2 --write-mostly --write-behind=16383
--bitmap=/mnt/raid1.bmp --bitmap-chunk=256M /dev/sdc2<br>
<br>
</span></span>This configuration should give the same read speed
as SSD alone and was intended to minimise write slowdowns caused by
the 'rust' drive. <br>
<br>
/dev/sdb1 is a small partition on the SSD formatted with ext2 for
the sole purpose of holding the 'write intent bitmap file' which you
have to have for this raid configuration. By making this file
external to the array but located on the SSD. So I put /dev/sdb1 in
/etc/fstab to be auto-mounted as /mnt.<br>
<br>
It was auto-mounted, but it didn't work for the purpose - md (the
RAID daemon) failed to start. I'm guessing that at the point in the
boot process when md starts /etc/fstab has not yet been processed,
so md could not see /mnt/raid1.bmp and it spat its dummy out.<br>
<br>
For now, I'm using a non-RAID configuration based just on SSD and
will rely regular (but not of course instantaneous) backups.<br>

If it's not empty the newly mounted disc hides what's in it so usually you create one for the purpose. You can mount discs in more than one place at once and you can mount part of a filesystem too - it doesn't have to be the root (of its directory tree). Dick |
