Hey, =20 In the latest release from Devil-Linux the lmtp is missing from postfix. lmtp is de documented way to use Postfix en Cyrus IMAP.=20 =20 The lmtp protocol is implemented by de smtp daemon. But there needs to by a link from lmtp to smtp. So a simple 'ln -s smtp lmtp' in /usr/libexec/postfix will fix everything. I build a custom CD with the extra link and lmtp to cyrus works as documented. =20 -- Peter |

The out of tree driver is located here : http://developer.osdl.org/~shemminger/releases/ I just repackaged his code to make an "in-tree" patch. I will normally merge this code into 2.4.35, and Stephen offered to update the code then to match 2.6. > I personally tried these patches with > the current 1.2 Devil from CVS - I didn't test it very thoroughly yet, but it > also seems to work with much better performance in the 2.4.33 kernel. I have performed benchmarks, and the driver is still slightly slower than sk98lin, and consumes a little bit more CPU. However, it fixes a few problems with the sk98lin, the most annoying one being the NIC becoming silent after sending a few thousands UDP packets, then requiring that you send at least one TCP packet to start sending UDP again. Imagine that on an NFS server ! Regards, Willy |

Hey Peter, we really try to avoid adding Kernel patches whenever possible, since this is a nightmare every time a new Kernel comes out. I'm sorry to say this, but you most likely have to keep compiling your own modified version of DL. We can confirm the problem with cpqarrayd and quagga of misssing snmp. Alberto is looking into it. I have a bunch of machines with 3Com/Marvell NICs, I used to have a bunch of pretty obscure network problems (particularly communicating with WinXP), that mostly went away after I switched from "sk98lin" to the new "skge" driver. Unfortunately, I have similar problems with some machines running Devil-Linux and this driver is only included in the 2.6.x kernel. I looked all over the internet for a backport of this driver for the 2.4.x kernel. The only location I could find is: http://linux.1wt.eu/kernel/patches-2.4.33-wt3/pool/2.4.33-skge-1.6-1-glue.diff http://linux.1wt.eu/kernel/patches-2.4.33-wt3/pool/2.4.33-skge-1.6-2-files.diff http://linux.1wt.eu/kernel/patches-2.4.33-wt3/pool/2.4.33-skge-1.6-3-build.diff http://linux.1wt.eu/kernel/patches-2.4.33-wt3/pool/2.4.33-skge-1.6-4-build.diff (I couldn't even figure out who is the author/maintainer of these kernel patches) It would be nice to have this driver included in Devil Linux. Maybe someone knows a more "official" source for this backport? I personally tried these patches with the current 1.2 Devil from CVS - I didn't test it very thoroughly yet, but it also seems to work with much better performance in the 2.4.33 kernel. (Btw.: There seems to be a little problem with the build dependencies: Building cpqarrayd and quagga both failed because of misssing snmp) Regards, Peter Daum |

Hi all! Is there any solution (or best practice) how to deal with configurations (etc-tree) when upgrading to another DL version? Do I manually have to remember all services I have configured? Can I just reuse the old tree with the new version or will that cause problems? Thanks, /Christian |

It is working as designed. Autodetection of hardware is a project on its own and we just do not have the resources available to work with this. On the otherhand, most people who actually use DL, want the complete control over their system. If you want something messing with your distro and settings things you're not in control about, then you can use any mainstream distro. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

Yes - I did that and used e100 , thanks very much. A related question, I am creating a USB Pendrive to ship to clients that contains a tftp server and router config file, so a direct ship of hardware to site from supplier, can be installed by non-skilled personnel, by booting a local desktop/laptop off the USB Pendrive, connecting the router/switch, and voila ! One live router. But - if DevilLinux does not auto parse all the Ethernet drivers out there and installs eth0 automagically, then I have chosen the wrong distro. So, is the issue of having to set the eth0 module, specific to my laptop style, or is the manual selection just the way it is supposed to work ? thx On 12/3/06, Chad Martin <ch...@th...> wrote: > Eric Greenwood wrote: > > I have installed DL 1.2.11-i486 on my Dell Inspiron 510M, run from > > CDRom, with USB pendrive for config. I have installed DL 1.2.11-i486 on my Dell Inspiron 510M, run from CDRom, with USB pendrive for config. That all works OK, but the eth0 driver module is not installed - which renders the system useless. The setup script gives me a module name PO80211 or similar module, and I set that to load, reboot, but no eth0. ifconfig confirms only loopback installed. Any ideas as how to fix ? and , how can I save the boot messages on startup ? Are they logged somewhere ? I set kenel logging to 7, but no after boot log found. THX imlnet |

The variable name in the squid script should be "CONFIG_OPENLDAPLIB". I correctesd it in CVS. -- Regards Heiko Zuerker http://www.devil-linux.org |

I=92m trying to let squid works using LDAP authentication (Devil Linux 1.= 2.11 distribution). After several trials with squid configuration file, e= xecuting squid =96v I discovered that no LDAP helpers was enabled. So I d= ecided to rebuild a new distribution to include also that helpers. I prep= ared the whole environment for building (checked out rel-1-2-patches) and= taking a look to squid script under build/scripts directory I noticed th= at it needs of CONFIG_LDAP=3Dy in the build configuration file. So, after= make unpack, I executed make menuconfig. I didn=92t touch anything and s= aved the default configuration. Unfortunately, I discovered that CONFIG_L= DAP was not included in the configuration file. Executing make menuconfig= again I can=92t find any configuration item that set it. Even if I can s= et it manually, I want to know if there is something broken or missing. =20 Regards. ___________ ADSL No Telecom Diventa distributore ADSL: 2500 aziende ci hanno gi=E0 scelto!
