Sorry to bother you again with this but libipt_recent.so is not there despite of the announced "addition of missing iptables modules". The problem was introduced in 1.2.12. To reproduce it execute: #/sbin/modprobe ipt_recent #iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 22 -m recent --set --name SSH (the last command is just to illustrate the problem, it is not part of the normal firewall script) The error message is: iptables v1.3.7: Couldn't load match `recent':/usr/lib/iptables/libipt_recent.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Note that the actual kernel module ipt_recent is there: /lib/modules/2.4.34-grsec/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/ipt_recent.o The missing file seems to be a library that is needed by this module. That's an interesting point but not one I need to worry about right now - I've got 4 orders of magnitude to go yet :-) I think I'll probably bite-the-bullet and change to using a single uid for all virtual users. At least it keeps it simple. Thanks for your advice. Dick |

This problem isn't new to this release but the dovecot lda "deliver" = (/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver) really needs (IMHO) setuid permission set = for=20 when it is used in a virtual domains situation. Otherwise all virtual = users=20 have to be given the same uid which is not preferred. Is that a problem? On Postfix-based systems, when using virtual = (non-system) accounts, having just single system user owning all mail is = the most common way configure a system. Usually this user is named vmail. = Cyrus/Courier/Dovecot/other-IMAP works nice and safe here. It is important not to allow login for this vmail account. Yes, Postfix supports arrangement where each virtual mailbox has different = virtual user owner. Each virtual user uses an uid+gid, so it doesn't scale = to 100000+ users.. The workaround is to copy the program to /opt - actually not such a bad = solution. True :-) 1.2.13 seems to work OK though. Thanks very much again for all your hard = work. 1.2.13 also works nice as a dns, spam+virus filtering mailgw, openvpn, = ftp, ipsec server. Thanks :-) Dick /Kari |

I've checked and not without a thrill I have to say...and fprobe is there!
I can find no adequate words to thank you... :-))))

This problem isn't new to this release but the dovecot lda "deliver" (/usr/libexec/dovecot/deliver) really needs (IMHO) setuid permission set for when it is used in a virtual domains situation. It affects people booting from the CD without a configuration and it's only important for users who changed the on-CD default configuration to contain RUNFROMRAM=y. Users who don't need RUNFROMRAM=y right from the beginning, not like Dmitry, can ignore a possible error message produced by the umount command and DL will boot just fine. If this patch is not included Dmitry has to compile DL for himself as he might be hit by that race condition(*). (*) the race condition is currently only verified with qemu, no other reports yet. -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock Linux Services Lobenstock URL: http://www.lsl.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |

You can also install an IDE to compact flash adapter into your motherboards IDE socket, eg. this one from Conrad <http://preview.tinyurl.com/2elgxj>. But I don't see etc being mentioned there. DL is not really suitable to have /etc/ on a real harddisc. I think you'll find out when you try it out. You'd have to hack the boot process to not depend on etc.tar.bz2 to be available. BTW it is really nice to have to run "save-config" especially in case of remote configuration changes. One simply starts a "shutdown -r 30 &" in the background, does his changes and tests them. In case something goes wrong, eg. you locked yourself out, just go for a coffee as the shutdown will jump in and bring the system back again as it was before. Just saved yourself from hours of riding the car or traveling by plane to some remote location ;-) Only when everything works out fine you do a "save-config". Try that when all your changes are saved to the live system - a reboot won't help you there. Just my 2 cents. -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock Linux Services Lobenstock URL: http://www.lsl.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |

Yes, but your installation manual has a pretty nice table with all possible LV names (supposed to be recognized by DL), and "etc" volume is there in the list..... :) I just thought I can create and mount "etc" volume, so all my /etc stuff goes there with no need for save-config every time. I just like the DL distro itself for small bullet-proof projects, not only because of its its separate image & config file structure. It can be really usefull I think... -- Best regards, Dmitry Komarov |

But you'd absolutely need to set RUNFROMRAM=yes. That's why I've added RUNFROMRAM in the first place ;-) Would you want to check out a quick an dirty hacked install-on-usb script? > 2) if I create an ext2 partition from install-on-usb script (say using Grub) > then later I can't create an initial configuration on this partition during > boot (it offers this option, gives no error, but does not actually create > etc.tar.bz2 there). "unkown" LV's are mounted at /var/ (which essentially is /shm/var). Edit /etc/config/lvmtab if you want a LV to be mounted at some place else. -- MfG / Regards Friedrich Lobenstock ____________________________________________________________________ Friedrich Lobenstock Linux Services Lobenstock URL: http://www.lsl.at/ Email: fl...@fl... ____________________________________________________________________ |

Heh, thanks a lot for support! I've just came myself to the same solution and it works. But I really hate going through the same bugs from one release to another while being too shy myself to submit patches... Hope to see this in upcoming 1.2.13 :))) Two more old problems there: 1) install-on-usb script actually is buggy when you try to create and msdos bootable partition - syslinux always claims "unknown partition type msdos" and I need to run it under another distro; 2) if I create an ext2 partition from install-on-usb script (say using Grub) then later I can't create an initial configuration on this partition during boot (it offers this option, gives no error, but does not actually create etc.tar.bz2 there). If I create this file on the partition myself - then save-config works just fine. 3) if I create an LVM volume "etc", it is mounted under /shm/var/etc after all. I will have to check the startup process, maybe I've included RUNFROMRAM too early in the process so when you hit the no config media case it's already to late to activate it from the default config. Hello, Is it to late to update Mail::DKIM which is part of site-perl in DL 1.2.13? There have been significant and useful changes between the DKIM version 0.19 which is on 1.2.11 and the latest, not yet on CPAN, version 0.23 (http://jason.long.name/dkimproxy/Mail-DKIM-0.23.tar.gz). Thanks Dick |
