I just uploaded changes to CVS that allows DL to create a default configuration for you. If during the boot, DL finds an empty floppy in the drive, it now asks permission to copy the default etc tar file to the floppy. It also gives you the option to probe for SCSI controllers in case your CD drive is on a SCSI chain. This simplifies a new DL install. Instead of having to create the floppy manually, now just boot the first time with a blank/formatted floppy in the drive, and answer the questions. Existing installations (that already have a good config on floppy) will not notice any difference. Before building a new ISO, you must create a new etc directory. If you don't want to start over with a "make mrproper", do this: rm tmp/.done_install_015_create_etc tmp/.done_iso_100_build-iso make install make iso and test out my new changes! :-) - BS |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '1.0.9' of 'Linux Virtual Server' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/linuxvirtualserver/ The changes in this release are as follows: The terrible piece of code which initialized the sltimer_jiffies with the system jiffies, which was added in version 1.0.8, was removed. The Shortest Expected Delay scheduling module and the Never Queue scheduling module were ported back from IPVS 1.1.5. Project description: The Linux Virtual Server Project is an Open Source project to cluster many real servers together into a highly available, high-performance virtual server. The LVS handles connections from clients and passes them on the the real servers (so-called Layer 4 switching) and can virtualize almost any TCP or UDP service, like HTTP, HTTPS, NNTP, FTP, DNS, ssh, POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, etc. It is fully transparent to the client accessing the virtual service. If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. You'll be presented with a list of projects you're subscribed to in the right column, which you may cancel by highlighting the project in question and clicking the 'delete' button. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/distcc/ The changes in this release are as follows: Builds for non-GNU platforms were fixed. Project description: distcc is a parallel build system that distributes compilation of C/C++/ObjC code across machines on a network. It can be set up in just a few minutes and makes builds up to ten times faster. It does not require machines to share a filesystem or have the same libraries or header files, and installation does not need superuser privileges. This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.55' of 'SpamAssassin' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/spamassassin/ The changes in this release are as follows: This version is a minor bug fix release containing mostly documentation updates. spamd is fixed to run on Perl 5.005. Project description: SpamAssassin is a mail filter that uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify spam. Once identified, the mail can then be optionally tagged as spam for later filtering. It provides a command line tool to perform filtering, a client-server system to filter large volumes of mail, and Mail::SpamAssassin, a set of Perl modules that implement a Mail::Audit plugin -- allowing SpamAssassin to be used in a Mail::Audit filter, a spam-protection proxy POP/IMAP server, or almost anywhere. Yes, that's what I've been doing. I've been wondering about the purpose of "make dist", and this jogged my memory to ask. I've never even run a "make dist" command. Why would I want to? What's it good for? I'm missing the point again! :-) > Another tip: > Put a dos formated disk into drive a: then do > dd if=/dev/fd0 of=floppy-image > You can mount this > mount floppy-image /mnt -o loop > cd /mnt > rm * (only if floppy was not empty) > tar -xvjf /path-to/etc.tar.bz2 > cd homedir > umount /mnt OK, that creates an _un_tar'ed etc directory in the floppy image, but I thought the boot process wanted /etc tar'ed up? Shouldn't the "tar -xvjf /path-to/etc.tar.bz2" command be: "cp /path-to/etc.tar.bz2 /mnt" instead??? > Now configure vmware to use the bootcd.iso and the floppy-image > files as cdrom and floppy drive. Your welcome. > Speaking of testing, what good is the results of "make dist"? > Can that be used for testing some how? Actually for testing you'd only need to run 'make iso'. Another tip: Put a dos formated disk into drive a: then do dd if=/dev/fd0 of=floppy-image You can mount this mount floppy-image /mnt -o loop cd /mnt rm * (only if floppy was not empty) tar -xvjf /path-to/etc.tar.bz2 cd homedir umount /mnt Now configure vmware to use the bootcd.iso and the floppy-image files as cdrom and floppy drive. For testing you'd usually cd to tmp/ISO/initrdtree and create your scripts there (except for config/etc/initrd/linuxrc, config/etc/initrd/links and tmp/ETC/etc/init.d/functions). Then run 'scripts/build.sh iso' and retest with vmware.
