This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.3.2' of 'Python' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/python/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release includes a workaround for a compilation bug under OpenBSD, as well as some fixes in the autoconf and md5sum modules. Project description: Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax, and isn't difficult to learn. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (Tk, Mac, MFC, GTK+, Qt, wxWindows). Newbuilt-in modules are easily written in C or C++. Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface. Trove categories: [Development Status ] 6 - Mature [Environment ] Console (Text Based), MacOS X, Web Environment, Win32 (MS Windows), X11 Applications [Intended Audience ] Developers [License ] OSI Approved :: Python License [Operating System ] OS Independent [Programming Language] C, Python [Topic ] Software Development :: Interpreters If you would like to cancel subscription to releases of this project, login to freshmeat.net and choose 'home' from the personal menubar at the top of the page. I like the sound of "shell scripts" in this one, since out "setup" program is a shell script. Feel free to include it, as far as I'm concerned. - BS |

Found this package: http://www.badpenguin.org/pub/software/libhardware/ Its purpose? Well, from freshmeat: It provides functions to access information about your system hardware, to detect the hardware, and to handle kernel modules automatically. It is able to enumerate all PCI devices, enumerate all EIDE disks and CDROMs, enumerate all SCSI disks and CDROMs, enumerate all EIDE/SCSI disk partitions, and check if a detected device is supported in the Linux kernel using a custom PCI database. It can also handle USB devices. The included shell scripts 'probedisk' and 'probepart' detect disks, CDROMs, and partitions. The included 'scanmodule' utility allows you to detect devices and load their kernel modules automatically Why do I think we should include it? So that we can stop having to have people figure out which module to load for their ethernet card! Also, it will handle loading the right sound drivers - for those people who want to have sound on their Devil-Linux. Other choices? Of course - the program that Knoppix uses, whatever Red Hat uses (anaconda?), etc. Just my thought for the day. :-) Dean Nedelman TimeLord Consulting |

Howdy, I was thinking if we should remove gcc / binutils /distcc from the standard distro. I don't think that anybody really uses the DL box as distcc compilehost. Heiko |

Hey iptables is slowly driving me crazy. When I start with a fresh lfssystem and compile everything from scratch, iptables won't load the extensions because of the missing symbol _guard. This means the stack smashing protector stuff. When I delete and re-compile iptables (via the build system), then it works...... HELP ! Any ideas? cu Heiko |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.6.9' of 'lftp' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/lftp/ The changes in this release are as follows: A new ftp:ssl-protect-list setting has been added for encrypting file listings selectively. This release doesn't use PRET again if it is not supported. A cls --sort=time option (alias for sort=date) has been added. File modification time will not be set if it grew while downloading. There is a new cmd:verify-path-cached setting. Long options for the 'open' command have been added. Project description: lftp is a sophisticated command line based FTP client. It has a multithreaded design allowing you to issue and execute multiple commands simultaneosly or in the background. It also features mirroring capabilities and will reconnect and continue transfers in the event of a disconnection. Also, if you quit the program while transfers are still in progress, it will switch to nohup mode and finish the transfers in the background. HTTP protocol and FTP over HTTP proxy are supported.
