Can you be more specific on what users you are talking about? Normal users, added after installation (tom/dick/harry) should have ALL of their attributes moved including home directory, shell, etc. Users in the default passwd file (root,bin,www,mail,fax,...) only have their passwords migrated. This is because only the stock user which has rights to actually login is "root". So, why is this a problem? Did you change root's home directory or shell? Or are you using "bin" as a login user? (shame on you! :) > Should we just go ahead and plain-dumb copy the entire lines from the > passwd/shadow/group/gshadow files ? No, please give more details of what the hell you're doing, and I'll adjust accordingly. :-) - BS |

I ran my own compile last night. mrproper, new lfssystem. I turned OFF _all_ of the security options under: Build-Configuration -> Security Now to see if the cipe module (cipcb0.o) loads.... Well, I never got that far. Kernel crash upon boot! Starting up final system... /bin/chroot: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libsafe.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init! |

Hey, I just ran into a small problem with the upgrade of users/groups. Currently only the passwords of existing users get migrated. This can (in my case did) cause problems, when other things got changed like group memberships or home directories. Should we just go ahead and plain-dumb copy the entire lines from the passwd/shadow/group/gshadow files ? cu Heiko |

I introduced 3 major security enhancements over the last few days, one is to compile almost all programs as ET_DYN, I added libsafe and the Kernel is now compiled with the SSP. There are a few more things in the pipe, which I would like to get done first. Heiko |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.3.3' of 'Python' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/python/ The changes in this release are as follows: This release fixes a number of bugs, including a couple of serious errors with weakrefs and the cyclic garbage collector. There are also several fixes to the standard library. Project description: Python is an interpreted, interactive, object-oriented programming language. It combines remarkable power with very clear syntax, and isn't difficult to learn. It has modules, classes, exceptions, very high level data types, and dynamic typing. There are interfaces to many system calls and libraries, as well as to various windowing systems (Tk, Mac, MFC, GTK+, Qt, wxWindows). New built-in modules are easily written in C or C++. Python is also usable as an extension language for applications that need a programmable interface. The kernel module for CIPE is saying it has unresolved symbols when a "depmod" is run. I checked and we have the latest version of CIPE. Could this be because of one of the new security libs installed? I tried the "-fno-stack-protector" CFLAGS, which get rid of some of the unresolved symbols, but not all of them. Other ideas? - BS |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '20031230' of 'SAGATOR' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/sagator/ The changes in this release are as follows: Libclamav now always loads its database from a chrooted environment. When the internal decompressor fails, an external is used. A bug with libclamav() and spamassassind(), which sometimes put wrong lines into email, was fixed. The debug functions were rewritten. Project description: SAGATOR is an email antivirus/antispam gateway. It is an interface to any smtpd, which runs an antivirus and/ or spam checker. Its modular architecture can use any combination of antivirus/spam checker according to configuration. It currently supports clamav, nod32d, AVG, sophos, TrendMicro AV, Symantec AV, spamassassin, bogofilter, and quickspamfilter. It has some internal checkers (string_scanner and regexp_scanner). It can parse MIME mails and decompress archives. Hey, I just added support for profiles to the build system. When you specify PROFILE=xxxx as a parameter to the make command, then this will force the build system to use the specific file out of the directory build/scripts/configuration/profiles . You can i.e. execute "make menuconfig PROFILE=router" , to see what I specified for the router profile (most likely needs some "adjustments" ). cu Heiko |

We currently use the gcc modification from the pax team. Kernel SSP support is also still missing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Heiko Zuerker (smiley73) Date: 2003-12-24 15:01 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=112133 LIBSafe is implemented and the support stuff for PIE is running in a test-compile right night. ProPolice and PAX are already included anyway. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=410643&aid=864037&group_id=34096 |

This email is to inform you about the release of version '2.01a22' of 'cdrtools' through freshmeat.net. All URLs and other useful information can be found at http://freshmeat.net/projects/cdrecord/ The changes in this release are as follows: mkisofs now supports creating Solaris x86 bootCDs. cdrecord prints a hint to -raw96r in case of a failed cue sheet. cdda2wav now uses major() to allow for Linux 2.6. Project description: cdrtools (formerly cdrecord) creates home-burned CDs with a CDR/CDRW recorder. It works as a burn engine for several applications. It supports CD recorders from many different vendors; all SCSI-3/mmc- and ATAPI/mmc-compliant drives should also work. Supported features include IDE/ATAPI, parallel port, and SCSI drives, audio CDs, data CDs, and mixed CDs, full multi-session support, CDRWs (rewritable), TAO, DAO, RAW, and human-readable error messages. cdrtools includes remote SCSI support and can access local or remote CD writers.
