Namely, HQ4x, bilinear, 3xBRZ, 4xBRZ, and 5xBRZ all immediately crash the emulator, even if i'm not running anything. I'm on Windows 10, x64 architecture. For some reason, all of those filters are the ones that resize to over 2x the resolution (except bilinear, I think).

    cant repro, they all work fine for me. course, im not going to run windows 10, but i doubt that's involved. are you using HD prescaling?

    It is confirm that HD prescaling turn on interferes with the filters and causes it to crash.
    By the way why is the HD prescaling feature only applied on 3D graphics but not 2D (like text) as well?

    Oh not this again. Directdraw (the default display method) cant handle resolutions that high. Change display method and problem goes away.

    because that's additional and completely independent hard work.
