Hello. Denise is a great emulator, i use it since about six months and I am very satisfied with it. Especially I like, that it also supports nice hardware like for example the Easyflash3. One question about hardware-support. The SD2IEC is also very widespread, but not all software works with it, because it depends on the loaders of the software, if it runs on the SD2IEC or not. If Denise would support the SD2IEC, then the user could always test in Denise, if a game or a demo work on the real SD2IEC hardware and that would be very nice. Therefore I wanted to ask, if it would be possible, to emulator the SD2IEC in Denise, like it was already done with the Easyflash3?

Tony

Hy. Indeed, SD2IEC support would be cool. It's not as compatible as 1541U, U64 or Turbo-Chameleon, but it's very cheap and it supports d81 too, therefore I really like it. A possibility, to test in Denise, whether a particular reloading-software works with the SD2IEC, would be really practical.

    Cheers,
    Richard

Hello. Sadly there was no answer to this so far. A short reply from the author of this project, if SD2IEC support could be added to the todo list, would be nice.

Obviously, nobody wants to implement this feature.

Nobody? I thought the only person, that implement things in Denise is you? Or are there other people too?

??? Without a reasonable answer, the request was closed, while most other requests get a normal answer. Strange. But okay, there are other good C-64 emulators too.

Going into a free open source application project that people work on in their spare time because they enjoy it, and act like someone should either be beholden to implement specific features that you personally feel are missing, or be obligated to explain why they're not doing it, is not a good way of going about things. If you want the feature, the source is there, and you're welcome to implement it yourself and provide a patch, which the original author may then choose to incorporate in the original project.

Maybe you feel you don't have the time, energy and/or talent to invest in getting to a point where you are able to do something like that, which is ok, but then you also can't demand that someone else should do the work for you.

(Not affiliated with the developer of Denise, but this "I demand you provide me service" attitude towards open source developers rubs me the wrong way.)

Total nonsense. First of all, I don't know, who you are, or what business this is of yours, but if someone's going to chime in uninvited and even don't tell the own name, then don't write lies, stick to the facts.

I asked about a feature here, just like everyone else, in a friendly manner. Initially, there was no response at all for a longer time, even though all the other requests here were answered. When I followed up several weeks later, the programmer simply replied, "It seems nobody cares," instead of a proper answer, like the ones given in all the other threads here. Those are the facts. Surely it's also my right, to express that I find it strange.

Otherwise, you should mind your own business and not comment on threads about things that don't concern you. Or are you the programmer here?

Just for information. SD2IEC support is similar, to using Virtual-Device-Traps in Denise. However, Denise can currently only load the first file of a multi-file C64 software via VDT, while the subsequent files are loaded normally then (or via speeder-kernel, if one is active). For full SD2IEC support, Denise would need to enable also the reloading of the following files with VDT and all the fastloaders, that are already integrated into the SD2IEC firmware, would then need to be integrated into Denise as well.

Therefore, I doubt this will happen, although I would appreciate it too, having an emulator, to test what works and what doesn't on a SD2IEC. This is partially possible in VICE, as the reloading of subsequent files of a multi-file-software with VDT is supported there, but these fastloaders that are already integrated into the SD2IEC firmware, are naturally also not supported in the VDT within VICE then, therefore also this is not 100% for testing. However, in about 90% of cases, you can determine, whether a software will run on a SD2IEC, by observing the behavior of VICE, when using VDT there. I use VICE for this, so far, because I also have two SD2IEC drives, but like i wrote, it's not 100% right for testing.

    Andreas

Thanks Andreas, these are good informations and I didn't knew that so far. Then I will use VICE for this purpose in the future, even if, as you wrote, it's only 90% reliable then, because those fastloaders, that are already integrated into the SD2IEC firmware, are not taken into account by the Virtual-Device-Traps in VICE then. But still, 90% reliability isn't too bad and okay for me, at least it's much better than nothing.

Being able, to test in an emulator beforehand, whether a particular C64-software runs on the SD2IEC hardware or not, is simply advantageous. Therefore, it would have been nice, if Denise could have been used for this purpose as well and hence my suggestion here on the website.

    Cheers,
    Tony
