CSCI E-162, "Advanced Topics in Java and Distributed Computing", provides coverage of distributed computing, and how it can be done effectively within the Java programming environment. Several of the key APIs and tools will be examined in detail throughout the course, and we'll see how these can be used to develop applications that fall into various design patterns (n-tier, peer-to-peer, mediator/collaborator, etc.). The APIs covered will include RMI, CORBA, EJB, JMS, XML and JNDI. Programming assignments will also allow students to gain experience with some basic tools of the trade, such as the networking APIs (java.net and java.io), JDBC, and servlets. ... read more
