Decal2 RC2 drops to desktop in high packetloss/green
link-lag/lag. The problem is inconsistent ... about
66% reproduceable.

Several machine/plugin cases were used for testing:

Case1
-----
* Win2k Pro
* 850mhz Intel, 256MB RAM
* DirectX 8.1
* ATI Rage M4 32MB video w/ latest drivers
* Decal2 RC2 (version 2.0.0.0 -- properly updated)
* ONLY Zyrcabot 1.1.0 in public mode

Case2
-----
* Win2k Pro
* 1.4Ghz AMD, 256MB RAM
* DirectX 8.1
* NVIDIA GeForce II Ultra 64MB video with latest
reference drivers
* Decal2 RC2 (version 2.0.0.0 -- properly updated)
* ONLY Keeba's Toolset 2.2.0.0 using only AFK

Case3
-----
* WinXP
* 1.1Ghz AMD, 512MB RAM
* NVIDIA GeForce II Ultra 64MB video with latest
reference drivers
* Decal2 RC2 (version 2.0.0.0 -- properly updated)
* ONLY Keeba's Toolset 2.2.0.0 using only AFK

In each case it has been observed that in high
packetloss (circa 2-5% or more), high ping (1k or
more), and/or green link lag -- the AC client drops to
desktop. However, if Decal (and hence the appropriate
plugin for the case) is disabled, this does not occur.

This last statement was verified by attempting to
reproduce the problem to isolate whether the issue was
a Decal2 RC2 issue or an AC client issue. My attempts
to reproduce the drop to desktop were simplistic: I'd
down my firewall for 10-20 seconds (to produce 100%
packetloss across that time) for the connected
machines and see which ones dropped to desktop.

12 outage tests were conducted. 6 of them consisted
of a 10 second connection outage -- with 3 tries
having Decal enabled and 3 having it disabled.
Another 6 outage tests them were then preformed as a
20-second connection outage -- again with 3 having
Decal enabled and 3 disabled.

In 4 of the 6 (66%) tests with Decal2 RC2 (and plugin)
enabled, a drop to desktop occurred. None of the
attempts caused a drop to desktop when Decal2 RC2 was
disabled -- and the AC client happily recovered within
its 45 second recovery period.

This behaviour was noted in Decal 1.1.0.0 as well. At
the time, only Case1, above (using Zyrcabot) was
running and I assumed it was either a Decal 1.1
problem or a Zyrcabot-specific problem -- which seems
not to be the case now that I'm running Decal2 RC2 on
multiple systems with different plugins (compared to
one another), and still seeing the problem...

    Addendum: All filters that are enabled by default (after
    completion of installation of Decal2 RC2) were enabled for
    the tests I conducted.

    Try disabling all of the listed filters. For just zyrcabot
    and keba's you shouldn't need any of them currently.

    Tested tonight with the following NETWORK FILTERS disabled:
    * Echo Filter 2
    * Character Stats Filter
    * World Object Filter

    Problem still occurred. I disabled all three at once
    rather than one at a time -- I know that's not ideal but
    the fact that the problem persisted suggests it's not a
    problem specific to the previously mentioned filters.

    I'll try disabling the following tomorrow (in addition to
    those previously mentioned):
    Prefilter Network Filter Surrogate

    That's the last 'filter' in the list. Other things I
    should try in order to help isolate? Perhaps a better
    questions is what items DO Keba's and Zyrcabot rely on?

    Note: I have to do this in stages as I can't just drop the
    firewall any time I want -- other users on it...

    Hate to say this, but could you start over with RC3? :D

    Heh, comment added last night when word of RC3 was up but
    the installer wasn't yet available. Upgrading to RC3 now.
    I might get a chance to do some testing with it tonight.

    Disabling the PreFilter Network Filter Surrogate didn't
    help in RC2, today, by the way.

    I suggest you close this one as it's specific to RC2. I
    will open a new defect if it persists in RC3.

    graybeard1: your problem does not sound related to this.

    Re-opened this one because it's persisted from RC3 all the
    way through to 2.1.0.5b.

    Can still reproduce it...
