hey guys, the new chimney graphics are in (check out that black smoke!), but theres a slight problem. lots of the pixels around the smoke and the chimney are just off white, meaning that they show up around the chimney, and look crazy. these pixels need to be changed to pure white, a fairly simple operation in the gimp or PSP. to put it bluntly, I'm really tired of being the only one who adds graphics to the CVS, so I'll let someone else sort this one out :-) good luck! have a look in graphics/struct/details/chim -- "Avoid the Gates of Hell. OK guys, just a small excuse as to why i haven't been fullfilling my sprite-a-day quota i set myself :-) I've been learning about blenders particle system, in readiness for me to make some fires and smokes :-) after finishing my 5th tutorial on the subject, i whipped up the attached picture, it's actually a 10 second animation, and once i chance the awful textures on it, I would like to add it to the game. problem is, a 10 second animation Will add 2 megs to the CVS. does anyone mind?? -- Thomi Richards th...@im... http://thomi.imail.net.nz/ Thomi Richards, th...@im... |

OK guys, voting question: should the project use 3d models for some of the more complicated objects in the game? my view is as follows: PRO's: speeds up the sprite making heaps. i can make 2 trees/bushes a day, if i don't have to model them. most of the models are top quality, and are easy to render using blender. CON's: not original artwork, which means that if we ever release a 'blender models pack', we cannot include these in it. also, 99% of the artists want a place in the credits, which i am happy to give them, if you are... generally, organics are waaaay beyond me, and I'm thinking that it would take me up wards of a week to create a single tree, but less than a day to render someone else's. I will still be making my own houses, fires, lamp posts, gutters, barns, weapons, decorations, siege engines, walls, guardhouses, bridges, stalls, tables, chairs, grates, gates, etc. etc. etc by myself, so it is a relatively small portion of the total graphics... -- DOS: n., A small annoying boot virus that causes random spontaneous system crashes, usually just before saving a massive project. ' I know, i had this problem as well. It seems that something has changed on sourceforge, and not tortoice will not work anymore.... I think I could get somethings done, but I am best at scripting, and as far as I am concerned, there hasn't been much need of that yet... and if there has, I've missed it, so whenever you have some scriping to do, I'll do my best to help out. -Phoenix ----- Original Message ----- > Sabre, Stiker, Phoenix, are you guys likely to have some time to devote > to ddmodd in the near future?? Story-type stuff seems to have become my specialty, and I especially love building off an existing idea. So, here are a few ideas and questions: To make the story more believable, no group should really be the bad guys. Each should have a sound cause and reason for defeating the other factions; I've written an example of that for the Warrior faction below. Note that it is written solely from the Dwarf/Orc point of view. They see themselves as the ones in the right. What race will the warrior be? I'm assuming it'll be Dwarf or Orc. The story seems to be leaving out some stuff with this faction, so here is a suggested one, which you can change around if you like: "The Dwarves are the original inhabitants of their section of the city, as there happens to be a mine of sorts there. The human town existed before the Dwarves came to the mine, it just wasn't large enough to claim that area. Eventually, the city expanded to the borders of the still small Dwarven village, much to the formerly isolated Dwarves' chagrin. It wasn't long before the city, desperately needing to expand to accommodate their growing population tried to annex the Dwarven lands... by any means necessary. After several skirmishes, the greatly outnumbered Dwarves finally conceded to annexation. Since that time, the Dwarves have been marginalized into something less than second-class citizens. The Dwarves, frustrated with their treatment at the hands of the humans began to build their own war-machine to drive them out. To compensate for their lack of numbers, they are now using their old mining technologies for use in war and are steadily inventing new technologies to aid their cause. The Dwarven alliance with the Orcs and Goblins comes in response to the Elven presence in the conflict. The Elves, in their effort to raise the city (this assumes that Elves have some reason to destroy the city, like it's defiling nature, for example), have begun attacking both Humans and Dwarves alike. The Dwarves would have been crushed if it were not for the arrival of the Goblinoid races (ie. Goblins & Orcs). The few Goblinoid leaders that had the incredible strength, willpower, and fortitude to resist the Powers of the Blade of the Moon, have lead their armies to extract revenge on the Elven race, and restore their cursed peoples. Having common enemies amongst the Humans and the Elves and recognizing their respective strengths and weaknesses the Dwarves and the Goblinoids have joined to defeat their foes." Just a suggestion, but to make the warrior a little more interesting to play, maybe you could have him benefit from Dwarven technologies, if we go with the Advanced Tech type Dwarves? He can get things like mechanical armor, grenades, and the like. Arcanum-like stuff. And I just thought of this, but did you ever play Seiken Densetsu 3 (English translation version), Freyalise/Caillan? I just realized your name (i guess former now) is a combination of a characters name, Lise, and that of her most powerful summon spell, Freya. -Striker >Ok, I have written out the history of the tribes and city for your reading >pleaseure!
