First, the rc-files are distribution related.  So if there's any problem with
them, contacat the package maintainer.  Trying to fetch the status of ddclient
isn't a ddclient related part of the story.  Those init scripts are to hard
to maintain if you want a script for every distribution.  If you want a _REAL_
check, use a basic way of working.  `ps ax | grep ddclient` should show you
something like:  4775 pts/0    S      0:00 ddclient - sleeping for 590 seconds
Second, if you think ddclient fails after the first reboot of your router, try
to get a log (syslog?) from it.  I'm pretty interested in why ddclient should
fail.
