Hello to all, Hello Wimpunk, I would like to ask how reliable the option "use=web" is. I am asking you this because I only found two sites wich display the current ip adress of the cient. So if myip.dnsdynamic.org and ip.changeip.com are down (it could happen) and there is no local method for viewing the ip... ddclient cannot update himself! So i would like to ask if it would be possible to extract the information of a webpage saving only the ip (v4 or v6) in ddclientso that also other pages as http://checkip.dns.he.net/ could work. I would like to say "thank you" in advance and escuses for my bad english. Hoping hearing from you, Alex |

I used to use checkip.dyndns.org which resolves in multiple addresses. It makes the system more reliable although ddclient does not retry if can't reach it. He just retries the next time. > > So i would like to ask if it would be possible to extract the > information of a webpage saving only the ip (v4 or v6) in ddclientso that > also other pages as http://checkip.dns.he.net/ could work. Maybe that an improper solution would be to duplicate the conf. file in the same file and to add two different web=... . Thank You again! Best Regards, Alex |

I still believe it's better to use your modem to get the IP address of your WAN connection. You can check it as fast as the firmware allows. > > Maybe that an improper solution would be to duplicate the conf. file > in the same file and to add two different web=... . > You can try but I don't think ddclient will be very happy to see that. I use checkip.dyndns.org but I did wonder if sooner or later it was going to check if the caller was registered with dyndns . (I used to be, but changed to noip when dyndns started charging.) -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: gayleard /at/ eircom.net School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland |
