Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647534 By: amster Hi, I've been running ddclient successfully for several months on a nasdrive with openembedded linux. Now suddenly ddclient seems to have problems getting the new ip-address. Have been running the ddclient -daemon=0 -debug -verbose -noquiet command and received the following results: WARNING: file /opt/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 3: Invalid Value for keyword 'ip' = '' WARNING: file /opt/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 4: Invalid Value for keyword 'ip' = '' WARNING: file /opt/var/cache/ddclient/ddclient.cache, line 5: Invalid Value for keyword 'ip' = '' having a look in the ddclient.cache it says: ## ddclient-3.7.3 ## last updated at Wed Nov 28 12:44:11 2007 (1196253851) atime=1196253851,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=balance-rief.homeip.net,ip=,mtime=0,mx =,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval=0,wi ldcard=1,wtime=0 balance-rief.homeip.net atime=1196253851,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=childrensbooks.serveftp.org,ip=,mtime= 0,mx=,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval= 0,wildcard=1,wtime=0 childrensbooks.serveftp.org atime=1196253851,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=kalshoven.serveftp.org,ip=,mtime=0,mx= ,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval=0,wil dcard=1,wtime=0 kalshoven.serveftp.org Furtheron I got the following debug-information: DEBUG: get_ip: using web, checkip.dyndns.com/ reports 217.6.164.162 Use of uninitialized value in string ne at /opt/sbin/ddclient line 1967. Use of uninitialized value in string ne at /opt/sbin/ddclient line 1967. Use of uninitialized value in string ne at /opt/sbin/ddclient line 1967. I don't know what caused the problem. ddclient.confit is one configured by dyndns and workd without problems so far. I hope someone can help out... Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647540 By: wimpunk I don't know why it got so but it looks like your IP isn't in your config anymore. The easiest way to solve this is removing your cache. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647551 By: amster Thank you for the quick answer! unfortunately it didn't work... I deleted the cache and after restarting ddclient I got the following ddclient.cache: # ddclient-3.7.3 ## last updated at Wed Nov 28 13:19:12 2007 (1196255952) atime=1196255952,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=balance-rief.homeip.net,ip=,mtime=0,mx =,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval=0,wi ldcard=1,wtime=0 balance-rief.homeip.net atime=1196255952,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=childrensbooks.serveftp.org,ip=,mtime= 0,mx=,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval= 0,wildcard=1,wtime=0 childrensbooks.serveftp.org atime=1196255952,backupmx=0,custom=0,host=kalshoven.serveftp.org,ip=,mtime=0,mx= ,static=0,status=noconnect,warned-min-error-interval=0,warned-min-interval=0,wil dcard=1,wtime=0 kalshoven.serveftp.org so somehow still no ip... Or do I misunderstand something? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647622 By: wimpunk So your config used to work previously? It's really strange. I would suggest you post your config to http://ddclient.pastebin.ca and make another post with the result of ddclient -verbose. Don't forget to replace your password by something like mypassword. I hope to see why ddclient doesn't save your IP (anymore) so first remove your cache file again. Taking a second look it says "status=noconnect" which isn't a good result... So I think ddclient has an problem when trying to update and that's why your ip is empty. Anyway, post your config & verbose result on pastebin and leave a message here when done. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647752 By: amster config work in the past... on the other hand it's just standard. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647810 By: wimpunk I removed some unneeded lines from your config but I don't think that causes your problem. See http://ddclient.pastebin.ca/800578 I'm wondering why you get lines 172-175. Those are incorrect. You have the same problem with the last lines. You should get something like; RECEIVE: HTTP/1.1 200 OK RECEIVE: Date: Wed, 28 Nov 2007 15:58:30 GMT RECEIVE: Server: Apache RECEIVE: X-UpdateCode: n RECEIVE: Content-Type: text/plain RECEIVE: Connection: close RECEIVE: RECEIVE: good 81.11.xx.xx SUCCESS: updating yourhost.dyndns.org: good: IP address set to xx.xx.xx.xx Especially the last receive line is important because ddclient uses it to know if it failed or not. Did you changed anything on dns or so? Do you use a proxy? I really don't know why your ddclient stops overthere... ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4647986 By: amster unfortunately the new ddclient.conf didn't do the trick... then thought remove it and re-install ddclient (as ipk-package) Now I can't start ddclient anymore... always getting the /bin/sh: opt/sbin/ddclient: not found So seems I have to figure this out first... ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648077 By: wimpunk I think there's something wrong with your path, I would expect /bin/sh: /opt/sbin/ddclient: not found with a slash before opt... Btw, which distribution are you using? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648128 By: amster you're right path is not correct... but that was not the reason. Had to change path in ddclient where to find perl. Now it works again... i.e. still having the same problem. So in fact newly installed, new ddclient.conf and still not able to update. Btw. to your question above: I'm not using a proxy Linux distribution I'm using was pre-installed on the nasdrive (form Intradisk, so called LAMP-openembedded Linux. I'm not sure if that helps... ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648195 By: wimpunk First, could you please reply to message you're replying to. Looking at https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648128 it's pretty hard to follow the discussion now. Do you have any modification on your DNS configuration? The result you got when trying to update wasn't one from dyndns so you'll probably have to check that setting. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648139 By: amster One further question: What does the following line mean? Use of uninitialized value in string ne at ./ddclient line 1967. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4648305 By: amster Sorry! To your question: I didn't change anything in the DNS configuration. Everything is as it was, except the new ddclient.conf file. When trying to update one of the error-messages was "Use of uninitalized value in string ne at ./ddclient line 1967". Can you please tell me what that refers to? Thank you for your help! ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4650649 By: wimpunk first: you still didn't posted a proper reply to my message. It's not a big problem but it's annoying when people try to read this thread. "Use of uninitalized value in string ne at ./ddclient line 1967" is a perl message. It mean that the variable at line 1967 isn't initialized. The original ddclient-3.7.3 has nothing on line 1967 so I think your version has been modified. Could post your version to http://ddclient.pastebin.ca and post the link to it over here so I could compare it to the original version of ddclient-3.7.3? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4651616 By: amster Ok, try to do it better now! Distribution I'm using is: ddclient 3.7.3-1_armeb.ipk I posted the ddclient version I'm using here: http://ddclient.pastebin.ca/802522 ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4651672 By: wimpunk it still isn't a good reply, you keep replying on your original message. When you try to reply to this message you should see the modified subject "RE: embedded ddclient can't update anymore". Looking at your version of ddclient, this is changes: < my $etc = ($program =~ /test/i) ? './' : '/opt/etc/ddclient/'; < my $cachedir = ($program =~ /test/i) ? './' : '/opt/var/cache/ddclient/'; < my $savedir = ($program =~ /test/i) ? 'URL/' : '/opt/tmp/'; It means that your version of ddclient is using /opt/etc/ddclient for its config, /opt/var/cache/ddclient for cache and /opt/tmp to save the answers. Maybe the last one is the problem: does /opt/tmp exist and is it writable? I don't think ddclient checks it. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4652031 By: amster ok, I'm stupid, finally understood what you mean... /opt/tmp does exits and is also writable.... btw I also asked support from dyndns. From their side everything is working fine and they cannot see any login-problems. Their answer: "I have to believe the issue is with the setup of ddclient." Is there anything else where I can look or what I can do? ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4652080 By: wimpunk I was checking you error on the uninitialized value. Looking at your logging in post http://ddclient.pastebin.ca/800558 there's an error on line 178. Looking at post http://ddclient.pastebin.ca/802522 on line 1967 I see it's related to your logging. So I checked your config again and I think I found the problem. Currently you have the default config after your login credentials. Try to switch them and get back afterwards. ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4652175 By: wimpunk Nice, this is a less difficult problem. :-) Unless you want to get blocked, there's a minimal interval needed before updates (or attempts to update). it's related to the dyndns policy. If you try again after 5 minutes it should work again. Finally. :-) I should check the source but I think the force options overrules this option (use with cause, you could get blocked by dyndns) ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum. Read and respond to this message at: https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=4663816 By: amster Hi, I wanted to give a short update. Finally everything is working again. Second problem I had was that my system was referring to a nameserver in resolve.conf which has been "switched off" some weeks ago and as a result was always pointing to the same wrong ip-address. To make a long story short. I changed the nameserver in resolve.conf and now ddclient is able to update again. Thank you for helping me in this case! I learned a lot... ______________________________________________________________________ You are receiving this email because you elected to monitor this forum.
