The following forum message was posted by karmannjro at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3787799: Actually, never mind that, and I\'m wishing I could delete that right now; I just noticed that that first line with the \"use=\" doesn\'t end in the backslash like the others, and is suggesting setting the \"use=\" to that for those. But I\'ll take a look into it and try to come up with a more definitive answer. |

The following forum message was posted by karmannjro at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3787799: Shouldn\'t be any problem at all; there\'s a \"use=\" clause in several of the examples in the sample conf file.
# use=web, web=members.orgdns.org/nic/ip # server=www.orgdns.org \\ # protocol=dyndns2 \\ # login=yourLoginName \\ # password=yourPassword \\ # yourSubdomain.orgdns.org ## ## dnspark.com ## (supports variables: mx, mxpri) ## # use=web, web=ipdetect.dnspark.com, web-skip=\'Current Address:\' # protocol=dnspark, \\ # server=www.dnspark.com, \\ # your-host.dnspark.com
I\'d probably set \"use=net\" for the default, and put \"use=if\" in the line(s) for the not-private domain update, in a case like that. But either way should work just fine. |

The following forum message was posted by icebike at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3423862: Gripp: Did you ever get this resolved? Is it possible to use multiple \"use\" instances, one for each service, or one for each interface? |

The following forum message was posted by icebike at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3787799: The \"use\" parameter seems to be apply to all requests. I would like to update two (or more) different dynamic dns names, each using a different \"use\" parameter. I would want to use \"net\" for one dns name, \"if\" for another (and maybe two instances of that). The intent here is to have a laptop traceable not only to the public IP it is using but also to the private lan IP it is using. (cat5 or wifi). I would create two (or 3) different names in my dnydns account. But I need to check my current ip by multiple methods. Is there any way to do this using one daemon, or do I have to run multiple instances. |

The following forum message was posted by wimpunk at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3760597: I\'m afraid it is not possible without any code hacking. Alternatively you could use the use=web option or try to find a page on your router which doesn\'t need any login information. |

The following forum message was posted by s_tec at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3760597: Hello, I have a weird router which uses a blank username and password. In other words, it still requires basic HTTP authentication, but the correct user name and password are both empty strings. I\'ve tried adding the following lines to ddclient.conf: fw-login= fw-password= Unfortunately, ddclient rejects this with the message: WARNING: file /etc/ddclient/ddclient.conf, line 8: Invalid Value for keyword \'fw-login\' = \'\' WARNING: skipping host: Address: \'login=\' is an invalid login. How do I get ddclient to send the HTTP authorization header my router is expecting, but with a blank user name and password? Thanks for any help. -William |

The following forum message was posted by kostah at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/467339/topic/3741655: regfish.de is >> not << free (but has way the best conditions for registering). but as many other domain hosters nowaday offers a dynamic dns update for the registered domain\'s dns entries. i used free dyndns before (still as backup though), but was tired of typing looooong names. so i grabbed some of the last trimains in the .org section. :) so let me know if this is still valid for you..there is also another registrar, veeeery popular in germany, STRATO (not free of corse) who offers dyndns2 protocol type updates, so one could insert some setup for it as well and make life for a lot of people easier. |

The following forum message was posted by wimpunk at http://sourceforge.net/projects/ddclient/forums/forum/399428/topic/3717517: If you IP didn\'t changed, it doesn\'t say anything. If you use the syslog option you will find a notice in syslog about a correct or failed update. Using the mail feature of ddclient, you should a mail about a successful update. Maybe you could try the verbose option to force ddclient to say at least something. |
