The idea behind this piece of software originally was billing of ISP customers by traffic volume, which was calculated from NetFlow export. Accordingly major focus was on loseless collection of flows under any load, aggregating by client. Any lost flow could potentially carry significant share of billing data, yielding lost money after all. Later though concept was shifted to make more generalized collection/analysis tool.
