In recent months I have catalogued my whole CD collection (over 6000 CDs) on to Datacrow, the vast majority of them using a barcode scanner and the lookup facility linked to discogs. I had no significant connectivity problems in achieving this task and all was well.
I have now had to relocate the laptop (which is running WIndows 11) from one room in my house to another but even so I am using the same ethernet infrastructure (EoP) that I used during the initial data upload but just from a different access point to my home network. The only other change to the laptop (beyond standard software upgrades) is that I have installed remote access software (Rustdesk remote desktop) on it to access other equipment on my home network that I use on a daily basis. The Datacrow software loads on the laptop without any problems and the database of previously catalogued CD information is available in full . Datacrow itslef seem to be running correctly.
However, having received some new CDs, today I attempted to catalogue them on my Datacrow database using the barcode reader and received the following error message when I attempted to catalogue the first of them:
org.datacrow.core http.HttpConnectionException java.io FileNotFoundEXcep….
https:\api.discogs.com/releases/5013929928428?key=vdffXbPsAdtZbfpslpC….
In both lines cases the "..." represents the unreadable continuation of the error message beyond the scope of the error message window provided by Datacrow.
In response, I tried closing down and restarting the application and the error kept happening. I closed down all others applications. It made no difference. I then rebooted the laptop and tried again with only Datacrow running. It offered up the same error message again. I then reinstalled Datacrow and tried again only to get the same error message again.
As I am a relative novice with Datacrow (and unfamiliar with java) please could you offer any pointers as to how this might be fixed or indeed whether this is some sort of software/ networking conflict or bug?
Further to my initial report I realised that I had not tried to find the CDs manually using alternative identifiers so I tried to do a find using the Discogs option using Title and Artist manually and lo and behold despite having not rebooted again it found the relevant data record without incident and I added it to my catalogue of CDs. Consequently I then tried to do a UPC search using the Barcode Scanner and an autofind on Discogs and it worked perfectly. I then added another 10 or so other CDs to my catalogue using the same means without incident. So clearly whatever the issue was cleared itself without any further active investigation, albeit I have been using both machines for other tasks in the interim both last night and today.
As such clearly the error report is solved albeit that's not to say the error doesn't warrant some sort of further investigation. but obviously it has a very low priority.
