[Ctags-devel] Warning: differ in signedness - how to fix?

I am getting this warning with vim.c with this code:

static const unsigned char* skipPrefix (const unsigned char* name, int
*scope)
{
    const unsigned char* result = name;
    int counter;
    int length;
    length = strlen(name);

vim.c:93: warning: pointer targets in passing arg 1 of `strlen' differ in
signedness


I have googled around a bit, can find lots of hits (seems a common problem).
Unfortunately, I didn't find an appropriate fix.  Any suggestions?
