I am in agreement, the current system means that I receive many duplicate emails. We need to think about what the 0.1 release will look like. I propose no additional features over what we already have. However, I would like it in a form that means Mike can use it to calculate scores for the Fanfoot.com game. In order to do this I think there are three things left to tackle Outstanding Bugs, Tasks and Feature Requests -------------------------------------------- I propose that any bug, feature request or taks with a priority of 7 or higher should be included in the 0.1 release. Therefore, if you want ot see something in the 0.1 release please either add it to SF now or up the priority of exeisitng items to at least 7. Presentation of results ----------------------- There are currently two tasks relating to this, Mike needs to see the player ID number as well as the player name, and the "prettiness" of the output needs to be improved. Both of these are only a matter of improving the Scores2HTML.xsl in src/resources/conf Error Trapping -------------- There is currently the facility to flag many errors in the calculation of scores. However, some can still slip through. I can see two ways of improving this situation: Scrape two information sources and compare the results. If the two coincide then we assume it is a valid event, otherwise we flag it for manual verification. This would provide two types of event a confirmed one and an unconfirmed one. We can then publish two scores for each player/team, a total confirmed score and a total unconfirmed score. Doing this would require some changes to the way the events are created, but would allow people to "dispute" scores. A disputed score could be marked as unconfirmed, only becoming confirmed again when manually verified by the games administrator. The second way is simpler to implement, but may allow more errors to creep through. In this instance we need to think of as many sanity checks for the data as we can (for example, the number of goal scorers should be equal to the number of goals scored) and encode these in a verification document (which would be XSL). Of course we can do both if we think it's needed. Any preferences/ideas? Ross |

In the absence of any comments on my proposed short term plans lazy consensus has kicked in. I have now converted them to a xdoc and put them up on the web site. As always, feel free to make changes in accordance with our consitution (in other words announce your plans here, and add them to the public document as long as no-one has a problem with them). We have been experimenting with send all changes to all bugs to this list. However, I feel that it is creting too much noise on the list and is likely to hide important mails from those not wishing to read every mail - i.e. potential developers rather than active developers. I have therefore changed the settings so that only new bugs are sent to this list. If you want to recieve further notifications you need to either be the person who submitted it, the person who it is assigned to or you need to click the "monitor" button the the bug page. If people would people we can set up a separate mailing list for bug announvements that will recieve all emails as this list was doing, however, this will mean that this list will not recieve any notifications at all. For the record I am +1 for this latter solution. Ross |

I have been doing a lot of testing over the weekend comparing scores from this weekend's matches calculated manually with those calculated by csms fantasy football module. Overall it's looking very good. The three problems that stand out most are if an unkown player scores a goal, ie how it affects the scores of defensive players of both teams. Another problem is own goals and how it affects clean sheets. The biggest problem though appears to be matching players with the wrong players from the 'players.xml' file. This then causes midfielders and strikers to be awarded points for clean sheets, because their teams got a clean sheet AND their names were matched to a defensive player earlier in the 'players.xml' list. I am currently compiling a little report containing every error over this wekend's games and will put it up on sourceforge sometime tomorrow evening (when the report is finished). Mike L. |

The commentary is available in CVS at src/test/resources/testHTML 87:53 Goal - Paolo Di Canio Fulham 0-1 West Ham. Foul by Zat Knight (Fulham) on Jermain Defoe (West Ham). Placed penalty taken right-footed by Paolo Di Canio (West Ham) (bottom-right of goal), scored.Fulham 0-1 West Ham. Zat Knight (Fulham) dismissed for serious foul play. I have recently tidied the detection of bookings and I think the method used there will solve this problem if applied to sending offs (allthough not tested) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ross Gardler (rgardler) Date: 2002-11-02 21:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88713 At present the system does not record redCards as a separate event, but it does need to. I have added a redCard Event to to scoringConfig.xsl and a (non working) event generator in the footballEvents.xml file. Not only does this not work, but I have made a spelling error in the type attribute (it says redCare). The pattern I have placed in this new event won;t match anything, this is deliberate so it doesn't stop the system working. All that is left for you to do is make the pattern match correctly. The nearest one to what you need to do is the booking one. Good luck! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ross Gardler (rgardler) Date: 2002-11-02 17:55 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88713 You are correct (and obviously getting the hang of thie way the system works). I am in the process of fixing the booking stuff as part of another bug but will leave this one for you to solve, ask questions when you need to. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Michael Lever (leverm) Date: 2002-11-02 15:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=631335 "Foul" somehow appears to have become a player. He is listed in the sendings off tab. I think this is caused by the structure of the sentence in the commentary : 78:17 Sent off Foul by Garry Flitcroft (Blackburn) on Fredrik Ljungberg (Arsenal). Garry Flitcroft (Blackburn) dismissed for second bookable offence... This is probably a problem with the regular expression used to find this event. Looking at the footballEvents.xml file, I think the expression chooses the first word(s) immediately after the phrase "Sent off". A way around this would be to use the sentence structure used in "Garry Flitcroft (Blackburn) dismissed for second bookable offence" to extract the sent off information. This could then also be used to decide if the sending off was a straight red card offence (-3 points) or a second yellow card (-1 point) as this is the normal structure used in the comentaries. The phrases "sent off " and "dismissed" do appear to be interchangeable though. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=509508&aid=629122&group_id=65029 |

I will be controlling the ones on Fanfoot.com quite closely as they are the ones most likely to be used for test pruposes by people downloading the files and I don;t want any inadvertant errors to creep in. Thus a single point of control over those files. I will be monitoring the CVS commits and updating as required. So how do you update the CVS? Easy, simply "commit" your changes. If there are no problems, i.e. no conflicts between your edit and somebody elses your CVS client will handle everything. If there are problems it will tell you that you need to manually merge the files, we'll deal with that when we need to. For now, just "commit" (don;t know how you do it in winCVS but it is a fair bet that you can just right click on the file to fine the option). ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=509508&aid=632984&group_id=65029 |

I will return if I get stuck. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Michael Lever (leverm) Date: 2002-11-03 21:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=631335 Worked out how to do it. I did also first update my local copy from the CVS repository. It is, as you say, as simple as right-clicking and selecting commit. Once you've added a note on the changes made, away it goes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Ross Gardler (rgardler) Date: 2002-11-03 20:56 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=88713 Wohooo!! Well done! Updating the CVS repository is bery easy, once you have set up write access to the CVS server (only available to developers on the project). The terminology is that you want to "sommit" your changes. This should help find it in the manual for your CVS client. In most cases you simply commit your changes to any particular file, CVS handles everything for you. However, sometimes, there is a conflict between your change and one made by someone else. If this ever happens CVS will tell you it cannot commit the file and that you need to merge your changes manually (there are some tricks to help with this, but we can tackle that at a different time) The easiest way to avoid "merge conflicts" as they are called si to always update your local copy before you do any editing. Let me know if you can;t work out how to commit your changes, if you do then close this support item. Once again, thanks for fixing this bug :-) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=509509&aid=632985&group_id=65029 |
