Hello, developers :) I am a Linux user who also has model airplanes as a hobby. While I don't necessarily need a simulator anymore, I find one fun to play with and I may also use one to help others get started with the hobby. When I quit using Windows, however, I also needed to replace the simulator software to something that was available on Linux. However, I couldn't find a model airplane simulator, until now. My brother found Crrcsim when he, too, was searching for a simulator suitable for Linux. Even though the graphics of Crrcsim are a bit rough, I was amazed at how good the flight model is and how well the simulator ran. Oh, there was a segmentation fault or something when trying to configure my controller, but I got around that by editing the settings file myself. The fact that the simulator runs perfectly well on a Radeon X300 with an open source video driver is very nice, too. The simulator still need some attention, though. At least there is a bug that crashes the simulator when I try to set up my joystick axis. There are some planes that don't fly well, if at all. The engine sound in some planes isn't very good. The release tarball's build system isn't really flexible, though it gets the job done in many cases. Even with its faults, I like the simulator very much and because it's free software, the problems can eventually be fixed. Is the simulator still being developed? When I look at the mailing list archive, the latest message seems to be from around April of this year. Have you lost interest in the project, or maybe just moved the discussion elsewhere? Or maybe you all are just flying? It's a nice hobby, anyways. I'd like to thank all you developers for creating this simulator. I found it able to fill my model flightsim need very well. I posted on a big Finnish model airplane forum about your simulator, recommending it for others. I think you are doing a great job and would like to see CRRCsim evolve even further. |
