short answer - to the best of my knowledge, the negative elevation of water doesn't make a difference. Originally, that was used to determine shallow, normal, and deep seas. From a purely technical view, the negative elevations only make some sense - elevation of water should really be the surface elevation of the water, and if needed, there should be a different attribute to denote how deep it is. After all, there are (or should be) lakes that are not at sea level (0) |
