The CVS repository could have some stale lock files:

Module maps-bigworld: Info/README v1.13

cvs checkout: waiting for anoncvs_crossfire's lock in /cvsroot/crossfire/CVSROOT

30 seconds that message. Forever.

    Confirmed that the problem exists.

I've been waiting several minutes on a checkout command.

At the moment, I am not finding a way to clear the lock file without having a working local CVS repo.

"The solution is to remove the lock files by hand from the repository subdirectory in question. Go into that part of the repository and look for files named #cvs.lock or that begin with #cvs.wfl or #cvs.rfl. Compare the file's timestamps with the start times of any currently running CVS processes. If the files could not possibly have been created by any of those processes, it's safe to delete them."

    https://sourceforge.net/p/forge/documentation/CVS/

"CVS is being phased out. We only offer limited support for CVS for projects previously using it on the Classic SourceForge system, with commit access going away at the end of November, 2017."

I'll see if I can make a tarball of the CVS tree and then make that available in the Download area of the website.
