As is, its a stupid idea to be a humanoid (dwarf, elf, human, gnome, etc.....but NOT dragon, fireborn etc..)monk. The main benefit of being a monk is meditation (so this is mostly going off the assumption that if you chose monk, then you want to be able to meditate), but that can only be used if you are not wearing any armour (can wear girdle, bracers, cloak, rings and ammies though--things dragons can wear). So say a humanoid char chooses monk for meditation...well, they have to limit themself to a dragon-like state, by only wearing rings ammies bracers girdle and cloaks to be able to use it. However, in this dragon-like state, being a dragon or fireborn makes alot more sense (specifically dragon, because they are like a humanoid monk that can use meditation + 95 resists + elemental clawing). Also, its not even realistic that dragons or fireborns (or serpentmen, quets, fenxes, etc.) could be monks...its not like they study hand-to-hand martial arts at monasteries all day long...

So basically, its tactically retarted to be a humanoid monk (compared against being a dragon monk for example)..even though that makes more sense than a non-humanoid monk...

One possible way to change this, would be to make it where you can meditate in any armour. (therefore dragon monks wouldnt have a huge advantage over human monks). This is probably the easiest way to rebalance this, and its almost like this already: see the note at the end.

Or add more unique skills for monks that arent affected by armour.

...Humanoid Monk is pretty much my favorite kind of character, but its just so crappy compared to dragon (etc.) monks that I don't want to use it...

(NOTE: its possible to level meditation and then be able to meditate while wearing some armour, though only through unintended ways (change to meditation while letting something die of melee-poison), so that didnt influence my claims at all)

While talking about this, someone said monks *can* wield weapons, and of course I didn't believe that, but then I tested and they can! Even though it specifically says they can't in the description....im making a bug report about this...

Heres a new idea that I really like:

While talking about how monks should have something like chi-strike from D&D, perhaps like karate with an added attacktype, meflin suggested that maybe you could temporarily be granted godpower attacktype after you meditate enough, sort of like how you gain godpower resist over an altar. I think this would be a really good way to balance out monks, because right now compared against a fully equipped warrior, they suck, but if they had the really rare attacktype of godpower, they might actually be worth playing, and also it makes sense monkwise. I favor the godpower attacktype, but I guess that plain old magic or weaponmagic attacktypes would do the job here too....

Also, I like meditation how it is, you should only be able to meditate while not wearing heavy armour type equipment....but yeah, dragon monks are way better, wish that could be fixed somehow

Oh yeah, maybe while you had the special meditate attacktype, if you killed it would give exp to meditation...allowing it to be leveled up? That way you could level up the skill so the granted attacktype would last longer? I think that could be cool, not sure how it would work though if it was really just you using karate while possessed by meditation....

Another possible way to make it where dragon/fireborn monks dont totally make humanoid monks suck...is to just deny dragons/fireborns from being monks at all! I doubt anyone else will like this idea though, because it would be the first time any race is denied from a certain class, plus every single dragon and fireborn character will hate this idea, because they are all always monks. Also, then you think well what about trolls, and serpentmen, and fenxes...

I dunno...hard to know what the best idea is...

(and pretty much no one ever plays a non-dragon-non-fireborn monk, so probably no one else is gonna care enough to post supportive ideas here....)

Humanoid monks are not necessarily unviable and I don't think adjusting the game to deny "bad" race+class combos is necessarily desirable for the simple fact that some people may simply want to play a less powerful, unorthodox combination. By the same token, arbitrarily banning some race+class combinations (especially a classic fireborn + monk combo which has been a staple since forever) would necessarily go over well.
