Hello Dear Cron Users, Iam trying to set-up a Cronjob for my Company's OTRS. We want a job which automatically calls the mails every 15 minutes into the OTRS Ticket System. My boss has already started setting up the service and OTRS is running fine, but everytime when we try to start the CronService I get Error Messages. I think something needs to be configured in the crontab file, perl, or the IIS-Manager. My log file says that Rule.pm cannot be found. Sorry for the chaotic description, but am a beginner in such things. Here a copy of my log file : -------------------------------------------------- [2013/07/18 21:53:31] starting service [2013/07/18 21:53:31] Can't locate File/Find/Rule.pm in @INC (@INC contains: C:\Program Files (x86)\OTRS\CRONw C:/Perl/site/lib C:/Perl/lib .) at C:\Program Files (x86)\OTRS\CRONw/Crontab.pm line 38. Hi Orlando, I also tried to run cronw on win32 and after some while wasn't able to work with cronw on win32 xp I heard from the core developer that most cronw problems are based on newer versions of Perl. I don't know which version should be used to keep cronw stable. My cronw error looks as follow: my cronw logfile tells me that Can't call method "mtime" without a package or object reference at which looks like mtime cannot be used even while Crontab.pm has the with use File::stat object reference. when I try P:\>net start cron I get back : The service is not responding to the control function. when I try to start cron in Services I get back Could not start the Cron Service (CRONw) service on local computer Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion when I try perl C:\CRONw\cronService.pl --crontab=C:\CRONw\crontab.txt I get back [2009/02/12 16:26:15] Can't call method "mtime" without a package or object reference at C:\CRONw/Crontab.pm line 370. [2009/02/12 16:26:15] Can't call method "mtime" without a package or object reference at C:\CRONw/Crontab.pm line 370. This is a strange bug. I cannot uninstall the cron to reinstall it all over. The biggest problem is an unmaintaned project for newer perl versions so someone should really step unto this. Maybe in your case you should check your system -> cronw and verify that you can start / stop / reinstall the service first . second make sure that you can test it with an cronw stable perl version. Or else try UNIX cron from cygwin regards from Malick Heuvel Orlando Reis wrote: > > Hi, I'm sorry to be asking this, and probably this has been asked in the > past. > > I'm not using activate state perl but a perl that was compiled by my > company > in a windows environment. > > I added ppm support and all the modules that cronw needs are installed. > > But I just can't get the cronw service to start... > > I have changed the log.conf > > log4perl.logger.cronw.cronService-pl = DEBUG, log > log4perl.logger.cronw.Crontab-pm = DEBUG, log > > And this is all I get in the error messages (log file) when invoked > manually. > > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] starting service > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] programdir: C:\CRONw_2.0 > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] logfile: C:\CRONw_2.0\logs\cronw.log > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab: C:\CRONw_2.0\crontab.txt > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] read crontab successfully > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (1) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (2) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (3) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (4) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (5) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (6) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (7) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (8) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (9) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (10) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (11) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (12) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (13) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (14) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (15) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (16) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (17) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (18) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (19) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (20) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (21) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (22) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (23) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (24) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (25) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (26) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (27) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (28) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (29) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (30) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (31) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (32) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (33) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (34) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (35) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] blank line (36) > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab parsed successfully > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] no job entries, syntax check skipped > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab object initialized > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] state: SERVICE_NOT_READY > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] do not sleep because of service state > [2008/09/14 09:47:55] service stopped > > I'm trying from the command line to call the application, doing so by > executing what is in the windows service. > c:\perl\bin\perl.exe "C:\CRONw_2.0\cronService.pl" > --crontab="C:\CRONw_2.0\crontab.txt" > > I have tried with active state perl and with our own perl. > > The modules installation proceeds in both versions (although it works in a > different manner). > > I have Oracle10G installed, in the beginning, I thought this might be a > problem due to Oracle10g setting up PERL5LIB, and I guess the reason for > the > service not starting is related to that. hi, i hope there are some people that can help me out in this issue. we need to use CRONw on a Windows machine and so we also need Win32::Daemon. as we are running perl 5.10 i was searching for this module but could only find the beta version from dave roth. well, after some tries i could install CRONw as a service... but always when i start the service it will be terminated immediately, telling that somethin ist not as it should be... well i had a look at the logs and could only find this: [2008/12/02 15:44:12] starting service [2008/12/02 15:44:12] programdir: C:\CRONw [2008/12/02 15:44:12] logfile: C:\CRONw\logs\cronw.log [2008/12/02 15:44:12] crontab: C:\CRONw\crontab.txt [2008/12/02 15:44:13] read crontab successfully [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (1) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (2) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (3) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (4) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (5) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (6) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (7) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (8) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (9) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (10) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (11) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (12) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (13) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (14) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (15) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (16) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (17) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (18) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (19) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (20) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (21) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (22) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (23) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (24) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (25) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (26) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (27) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (28) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (29) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (30) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (31) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (32) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (33) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (34) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] comment (35) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (36) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: */1, hour: *,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/GenericAgent.pl -c db ") (37) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (38) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: */1, hour: *,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/GenericAgent.pl ") (39) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (40) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: */5, hour: *,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/PendingJobs.pl ") (41) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (42) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: 10, hour: 0,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/otrs.cleanup ") (43) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (44) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: */1, hour: *,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/PostMasterMailbox.pl ") (45) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (46) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: 01, hour: 01,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/RebuildTicketIndex.pl ") (47) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (48) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: 55, hour: */2,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/DeleteSessionIDs.pl --expired ") (49) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] blank line (50) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] job entry (min: 35, hour: *,day: *, mon: *, wday: *, command: "C:/Perl/bin/perl.exe C:/ApacheSoftwareFoundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/otrs/bin/UnlockTickets.pl --timeout ") (51) [2008/12/02 15:44:13] crontab parsed successfully [2008/12/02 15:44:13] valid job: */1 - Hi, I'm sorry to be asking this, and probably this has been asked in the past. I'm not using activate state perl but a perl that was compiled by my company in a windows environment. I added ppm support and all the modules that cronw needs are installed. But I just can't get the cronw service to start... I have changed the log.conf log4perl.logger.cronw.cronService-pl = DEBUG, log log4perl.logger.cronw.Crontab-pm = DEBUG, log And this is all I get in the error messages (log file) when invoked manually. [2008/09/14 09:47:55] starting service [2008/09/14 09:47:55] programdir: C:\CRONw_2.0 [2008/09/14 09:47:55] logfile: C:\CRONw_2.0\logs\cronw.log [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab: C:\CRONw_2.0\crontab.txt [2008/09/14 09:47:55] read crontab successfully [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (1) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (2) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (3) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (4) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (5) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (6) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (7) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (8) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (9) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (10) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (11) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (12) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (13) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (14) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (15) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (16) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (17) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (18) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (19) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (20) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (21) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (22) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (23) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (24) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (25) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (26) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (27) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (28) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (29) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (30) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (31) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (32) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (33) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (34) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] comment (35) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] blank line (36) [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab parsed successfully [2008/09/14 09:47:55] no job entries, syntax check skipped [2008/09/14 09:47:55] crontab object initialized [2008/09/14 09:47:55] state: SERVICE_NOT_READY [2008/09/14 09:47:55] do not sleep because of service state [2008/09/14 09:47:55] service stopped I'm trying from the command line to call the application, doing so by executing what is in the windows service. c:\perl\bin\perl.exe "C:\CRONw_2.0\cronService.pl" --crontab="C:\CRONw_2.0\crontab.txt" I have tried with active state perl and with our own perl. The modules installation proceeds in both versions (although it works in a different manner). I have Oracle10G installed, in the beginning, I thought this might be a problem due to Oracle10g setting up PERL5LIB, and I guess the reason for the service not starting is related to that. But if I call it by manually it also doesn't work... Ive read somewhere there is some problem with perl 5.8.8 ? Can someone just give me some directions on how to fix this? Best regards, Orlando |

Greetings,
I am trying to get cronw going on a Windows 2003 Server with ActiveState
Perl v5.8.8.
The installation went smoothly.
When I try to start, it errors off:
>Net start CRON
The service is not responding to the control function.
More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2186.
>
The cronService.pl seems to be OK:
>perl cronService.pl
>
Trying to start it through the Services GUI I get:
Could not start the Cron Service(CRONw) service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start
or control request in a timely fashion.
I don't think it is a permissions problem; I tried running it as
Administrator with the same results.
The log file is not being written to.
Thanks for any suggestions,
Drew.

I recently installed CRONw on a Win2K3 R2 webserver running Apache, PHP, and MySQL. My purpose is to automate a mailer script to notify specific individuals of timed events. The initial test went well, the php script executed as expected. However, when I change the .php file those changes are not reflected in the output from the CRON-processed file. I changed various headers of the e-mail and I keep getting the old version sent to other users and myself. I've restarted the CRON service, rebooted the box, etc. It almost seems as if CRON is caching the first version of the file and continues to run that. I even renamed the file on the server, seeing if the original script would still run...and it is! When I go to the .php file through a browser it runs as it should (new version) even though there is no HTML output. Is there an inherent functionality of CRON that I am not aware of that does this caching? How do I change it? Thanks in advance, Rob |

I think it may be a permission problem. Is the LOCAL SYSTEM user to access your home directory and all the directories to create_ftp_output.plx? I think most of the times this is not the case. You may try to run cronw under a different user account but using your (probably Administrator) account seems to be a bad idea from a security point of view but may help with your problem. Please note that you have to grant some additional rights to your user in order to run a service under your account (plain Administrator is not enough). fs |

what additional steps are needed? here's my log (and I can see that perl.exe is running in my task window processes): [2007/01/11 12:23:27] starting service [2007/01/11 12:23:27] cron service started I edited the crontab file to just this one line, saved it in the same spot, and waited... */2 * * * * C:\Perl\bin\perl.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Me\My Documents\create_ftp_output.plx above perl script runs fine when I call it directly, so it's not problem. When i installed cronHelper.pl, I did not enter a user/pass. Is that it? I do have admin rights on the machine. If that is the problem, I do go back and enter that criteria on the command line. This is my first time trying to run a cron job, so I'm a newb. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Any questions?
