Received a message with unreadable characters in the title. When I attempted to open it, Cronos crashed. Now whenever I load Cronos, it crashes immediately.

You have probably recieved a message in a character set unknown to your system.
If you remove the message from your mailbox all should be well. (you will have to look in your ~/.cronos mbx files.)
