EPUB3 offers enhanced encoding for TTS features; see http://www.idpf.org/accessibility/guidelines/content/tts/overview.php. For a sample EPUB that uses these, see https://code.google.com/p/epub-samples/wiki/SamplesListing#georgia—for example, to make “30° 31′ 39″” read correctly as “thirty degrees, thirty-one minutes, thirty-nine seconds”, as opposed to something involving feet and inches.
