The detailed description (playing at crawl.akrasiac.org, 13:25 GMT 16/6/09) says pacifying monsters uses piety, but the ability description says it doesn't (nice one!)
As far as I remember dolorous had trouble with the piety display because there's not enough space on the religion screen to list both the Heal Self and Heal Other variants. The former uses piety, the latter not. Eventually he decided in favour of showing the cost.

I have changed the ^! text for Elyvilon pacification. The output on a is correct: no piety cost for Lesser Healing; some piety cost for Lesser Self-Healing. I have no idea how to express that on the ^ screen, as both Lesser Healings share a line there. Something like

might be even more confusing.
