[maildropl] maildrop-ldap "connot find system user"

I am trying to get ldap support to work in maildrop. I am using postfix 
and courier imapd currently and ldap lookups with courier imap are 
working fine. Yet, whenever I try
[root@ux7 ndobson]# maildrop -d bl...@wa... < message
i get:
Cannot find system user bl...@wa...
maildrop: signal 0x06

When i try :
[root@ux7 ndobson]# maildrop -d no...@wa... < message (account 
that really doesnt exist.)
i get: Invalid user specified.

I cannot seem to find an explanation for this error message anywehre. 
Any ideas?
