Makes a switch to courier-mta painless. > My question is, does courier-imap has a > component which does the smtp authentication?. Can't have, as imap is a protocol to _receive_ mail from a mailbox; and (e)smtp is a protocol to _send_ mail to a mailbox. They are complete independent to each other. But that was already explained to you on the list, IIRC. > I have the entire > courier suite installed and > I am not sure whether "esmtp" component is the one which does the SMTP > authentication. It is the one. The ESMTP component is roughly the courier-mta part of the courier suite. It does roughly the same as qmail. SMTP is short for "simple mail transfer protocol". ESMTP is short for "enhanced SMTP". > Note: I have qmail installed and do I have to remove it? You don't have to. There is some small text about how to run courier-mta parallel to your existing MTA (like qmail): <http://www.courier-mta.org/install.html#parallel> (I never used it like that). Anyhow: It makes things less confusing if you remove qmail. Just follow the whole install howto on <http://www.courier-mta.org/install.html>. ESMTP authentication and SSL encryption is covered by that howto. cu Dave KLiczbor |
