I am currently using COV version 2.0b4 for the past week and it has been working great for me. But lately, the shift key is not working. This sounds like a problem that occurred in a previous version but 'now' getting it with this version. This is the only COV version I have installed on my mac.

And as early as 3 years later, I can confirm the same problem in Snow leopard vnc-ing into x11vnc on Ubuntu lucid.
