A better way to install your packages is to prepare a drive-image with
anything you may need.
Any image that can boot on a real x86_64 machine should boot also in SimNow.
In the file:
https://sourceforge.net/p/cotson/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/images.list
there are some ready to use image that are quite updated (e.g., with Ubuntu
16.04).
Have a look at the README* files in the trunk directory.
