When connecting to my PC over VNC, if the Console window is not minimised the CPU usage jumps to 100%, split equally between the TightVNC server process and Console.

OS: XP Pro
VNC: TightVNC 1.3.9 Windows server and viewer
Console 2.00.141, 142 and 144

There is was a thread on the general discussion board about this (https://sourceforge.net/projects/console/forums/forum/143117/topic/1906764), and a workaround is given, but nothing seems to have come of it

A few extra points about this:

The high CPU usage occurs even if the console window is hidden behind another window. The only way to stop it is to minimise the window or disconnect the VNC client

I have tried changing various options in VNC relating window polling types and intervals, and installed a display mirror driver (as recommended by the TightVNC team, for performance), but nothing has helped.

The display size indicator in the lower right corner flickers noticeably while the connection is active, making me think the status bar is being updated continually

Ok, so statusbar does something that kills VNC.

I'll take a look, just need to install VNC :)
