On my Win2k SP4 box console crashes using the
console.xml file that is supplied with the standard
distro. It doesn't crash when I comment out line:
<tint r="0" g="0" b="0" opacity="80" />

Your wallpaper is probably not a true-color BMP file.
First, try changing 'transparency' tag value to 'none'. If
that works, set it back to 'fake' and set a wallpaper to a
true-color BMP file. That should work...
I'll add handling other image types when I find the time...

Can't reproduce anymore. Side note: I changed wallpaper
since I submitted this bug, I don't remember what the
other wallpaper was, but I'm pretty sure it was a bmp
file.

This crash was caused by using non-truecolor BMPs (either
background or fake transparency) with <tint> option. It
should be fixed in devel build 336. Please test and report :)
