Currently there appears to be no way to fix the displayed length of a (single) variable (to stop it from moving around; eg cpu/mem/bat when reaching 100%, or network speeds) to an arbitrary number — besides "scroll", but that makes it move around even more in its own way, and use_spacer adds far too many, plus it being a configuration setting makes it inflexible.
Thus, I request a "scroll"-like object minus the scrolling — with another option that sets whether overlong variables are cut off after the chosen length or displayed in full (useful eg for network speeds that don't have fixed but only usual max speed, such as wireless). A third setting that would have that extra space added in length steps might also be quite useful, as it could perhaps soften the moving around of some variables.
