Hmmm - except I've just seen a bug report on sourceforge that validate 
doesn't work with unicode configspecs. I've now fixed it in SVN and need 
to decide whether to update the release which I am half way through.

I will probably update, but it is annoying as it is so much work for a 
tiny fix.
