[Collective-commerce] patent infringement question from beginner

I am not a developer, but I am seriously considering using plonemall.
Is there any information available to which extend, process, practices
and software would infringe on existing ecommerce patents? To which
extend is plonemall protected e.g. under the open source alliance such
as the one IBM, Novell, Linux and others have formed, to which extend is
there an alliance with e.e. the Open Source Risk Management or with the
new law center (established in January 2005 ?: the Software Freedom Law
Center funded by OSDL). =20

Especially with something like ecommerce and a potential threat to
existing shopping portals if combined with new distribution models I am
curious to see how the Plone Mall community has covered itself again
litigation in the USA.
