    Hi,
I just wondered why the Free Collada setup program says in bold that you must have a Commercial Licence of Maya.
Since there is also the Educational, non-commercial licence type, does that mean the installer was specifically designed to tell educational users you may not use this as it's against the licence agreement?

      Hi Chief,

This is most probably because the Maya PLE (Learning Edition) does not allow the user to use exporters. From Maya's PLE webpage: "The Autodesk Maya PLE restricts users to non-commercial applications through the display of a watermark on images as well as through the use of a special non-commercial file format."

So it does not have anything to do with licensing issues. It's simply a software limitation. ;)

      Cheers,
      Van Aarde.

        Hi,

Indeed, Van Aarde is right: the educational version of Maya doesn't have an SDK - no libraries against which plugins can be linked and run. Thereby completely limiting the creation and use of plug-ins with that version. And the two versions aren't binary compatible.
