Hi! Well, I've set up xdm so that it dosent start a remote X server. These are the steps I've taken to enable xdmcp (so that I can connect via cygwin's X server) from some notes i'd made earlier to get it running on 0.6.1 1) apt-get install x-window-system-core xterm xdm enlightenment eterm 2) make runlevel 5 to /etc/inittab 3) setup xdmcp on xdm a) modify /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config, hunt for the line DisplayManager.requestPort: 0 and comment it b) uncomment # any host can get a login window in /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess c) now fire up X, modify your startx.sh file and call X like this run bash -lc "X -clipboard -broadcast" d) double click on modified startx.sh script and lo and behold, u're ready to go, you should get an xdm screen but now, when i double click on startx.sh (modified one), it dosent connect. So I just did an xinit at the console and this is the error I was getting with /var/log/XFree-86.log Fatal server error: xf86EnableIOPorts: failed to set IOPL for I/O (Operation not permitted) I googled a bit and it seemed to be machine specific or something, not exactly sure, pardon my ignorance. help? abhay On Mon Feb 07, 2005 at 08:50:13PM -0500 Ian Bonnycastle chose to say... > The answer to this is pretty simple.
