[coLinux-users] Still blue screen also on Pentium D 830 with DEP OptOut excepting colinux on

Pentium D 830 also blue screens unless DEP is disabled (on 0.6.3, haven't
tried 0.6.4). The D 830 is listed at
http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/pentium_d.htm.

That's what i found in an C't 14/1998:

Wenige Tage vor der offiziellen Vorstellung des neuen Intel-Prozessors Xeon (siehe Test auf S. 162) machte ein Gerücht die Runde: der Xeon habe einen schweren Bug. Tatsächlich bestätigte schließlich Intel dieses Gerücht, schob aber zunächst die Schuld auf den Server-Chipsatz NX. Später räumte man dann ein, der Crash-verursachende Bug beträfe doch den Prozessor (Xeon-Erratum Nr. 37: DBSY). Demnach tritt er nur im Zusammenspiel mit dem NX-Chipsatz auf, wenn vier Prozessoren zugegen sind - und das auch nur in `very configuration dependent environments´. 

So i doubt it is the reason.

Anybody,  please run a native linux with kernel >= 2.6.8 on Xeon CPU and
check for the message "Errata 037".  If this was printed, the coLinux
switching code should also handle this special case?

I found a fix. It seems that there is a device initialization issue.

MAKEDEV pty
And then
MAKEDEV ptmx
And it now works. I am not sure that I really need the first pty call =
but it
worked after the ptmx one.

How are you trying to start a terminal?  You do know that you need a XWin=
dows
server running in Windows, don't you?

[coLinux-users] Fedora 5: Konsole, udev workaround?

(I am very impressed with the coLinux package. I was able to install fedora
5 on XP ;-)

 

I am struggling to start a KDE Konsole (or a simple xterm). KDE installed
successfully and I can access that with a VNC. 

 

But how can I start a terminal session? I get the " Konsole is unable to
open a PTY (pseudo teletype) [.]". Is that due to the udev issue? Is there a
workaround?

Yes.  Normalny the initrd does this for you.
Set "initrd=initrd.gz" in your command line.

Or enable this in your XML config file:
     <initrd path="initrd.gz" />

Or copy the file vmlinux-modules.tar.gz via cofs mount into your running 
colinux and type this:
   cd /
   tar xzf vmlinux-modules.tar.gz

Hello,

i am really new to colinux, and i managed to run colinux from my ext3 
debian partition. it works fine, also the net connection
works properly, but i see these errors sometime:

"FATAL: could not load /lib/modules/2.6.11-co-0.6.4/modules.dep : No 
such file or directory."

Do i need to copy the content of vmlinux-modules.tar.gz on my linux
partition?

No go, so far.  I've tried removing the swap and
replacing it (an 800 megabyte swap file, freshly
re-created on another Linux machine), and reset the
memory to 500 megabytes.  It still has the exact same
problem.  I'm going to play a bit more with the ACPI
settings and maybe see if I can do a fresh re-install
of Ubuntu, but I'm pretty sure it won't do any good,
especially since if it's popping up like this it'll
probably pop up again later.  Any other ideas?

I suggest you copy one from another system, unless you find someone who realy knows gentoo.
