It turns out that the cygwin binaries fell off the web. I downloaded the source and compiled under cygwin. The spSize thing returns immediately and prints nothing. trying mkSparse right now... And any compatible AMD that implements the PAE mechanism (Physical Address Extensions). Windows doesn't enable PAE unless explicitely ordered to (with the /PAE switch), but in order to use DEP/NX, the processor needs to be run with PAE enabled (to have 64 bits page tables, instead of 32 bits). So, on Amd64 processors (and maybe Intel Ithanium, not sure about this), the bug will be triggered as soon as one enables the SP2 DEP/NX feature, but because PAE is also enabled. What is not tested yet is if, after correcting the PAE issue, it will have problems with the DEP/NX one. But the second should be easy enough to solve. Regards, ~Nuno Lucas |

I guess you installed SP2. It's a known issue and will be corrected. In the meanwhile, just disable DEP/NX if you intend to run colinux with the Amd64 machine. This can be accomplished by adding a /noexecute=AlwaysOff in your boot.ini, as documented here: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/maintain/sp2mempr.mspx Note that it's probable that it's not related to DEP/NX but with the enabling of PAE (Physical Address Extensions), required by DEP/NX. (Sent this to -devel while it probably should have been sent to -users) > I recently discovered I was running out of space on my main partition and needed to allcoate a new file to host a subset of it (/usr portage in this case). I checked the wiki, and it suggests using fsutil (available on xp only, though ntfs supports spare files on any windows version afaik) or making a non-sparse file using dd. > > I knocked up this util to create sparse files. It works at least in cygwin, so that solved the problem for me. Now I have what appears to be a 1GB filesystem, using only 110MB of diskspace with a reiserfs on it (/usr/portage used to live on ext3 which made it occupy 420MB disk space). > > have fun, YMMV > > /Anders > <<mksparse.c>> |

FB are hard in development. Snapshoot is in very good state. For releaseneed also some update in linux-images. So we need a while to go into release state. peter green wrote: > since the move to 2.6 colinux is in a major state of flux with things like > cofb and coserial in huge development > > while i understand why releases of colinux were made i do often thing that > colinux is a bit young for formal releases anyway at this stage > > >>-----Original Message----- >>From: col...@li... >>[mailto:col...@li...]On Behalf Of Fredrick >>Nilsson >>Sent: 23 September 2004 16:20 >>To: col...@li... >>Subject: [coLinux-users] active >> >> >>Hi! >> >>I'm just wondering if coLinux is halted in development, or if a new >>release is on it's way >> >>BR >>-- >>.fredrick >> > -- Henry Nestler |
