Hello,
I created a power point of slides as a simple introduction to speech
recognition with an emphasis on working practically with Sphinx4. Would anyone
from the dev team be interested in evaluating the powerpoint? With some
refining it could be a good resource for the website.
Thanks,
Heather

I uploaded the slides here: http://www.deweyhagborg.com/learningBitByBit/speech.ppt
Any feedback esp. corrections if you notice mistakes would be fantastic. Also
if anyone would like to flesh out a section or two with more details I am
happy to collaborate:)

Great job Heather! It took me a while to figure out that a lot of the
information is in the slide notes section but I think this is a nice concise
introduction to ASR/Sphinx 4. Among other things I found these slides do a
good job at describing the different elements of the system and their variants
(particularly the linguists). ... Also, slide 50 on expected performance
should be a very useful guideline/rule of thumb for new comers (s a side note,
it's probably just me being anal but I would only use one digit after the
fractional point). Again thanks for sharing these slides.

Thanks for the feedback!
I know putting so much info in the appendix is a little funny, but in actually
giving the presentation I found I didn't want to go through slide after slide
of configuration parameters for example. I am open to other ideas on the
subject:)

Actually I meant that you put the key content (what you would say if you were
giving the presentation) in the notes section (under the slide in standard PPT
layout). This is perfectly fine, just need to be aware of it.
Also, for the appendices, again the summary of the main parameters in one
place is pretty useful, and you were right to put that outside the main
presentation. All in all, these slides are a good companion to your references
(white paper, Jurafsky & Martin...).

Thanks!
Can we put this on our website or it's better to link it?
Probably better to post it up online locally than link to it on my site since
I might move it someday without thinking!
