Is it possible to use sphinx to give me a list of phonemes from some audio.
I am not so interested in recognizing words for their meaning, but rather their spoken structure. So for instance I might want to count the utterances that are the same or very similar to a sample word or sentence.
Is there part of Sphinx that breaks down audio into phonetics before trying to work out words etc? I only need that part.

Speech recognition does not work like that. You can learn more about speech recognition algorithms from our tutorial
