I'm having some trouble with using Sphinx for some recognition and Festival for synthesis. I'm doing this in Linux and am trying to get it to work on an older half-duplex sound card but am having trouble. Everything works great full-duplex on my sblive. I imagine a fair number of people wind up using both these libraries together, and am hoping someone else has tried to do it half-duplex.
I need to close the sound port for reading so festival can open it for writing... but if I do open_ad_sps ad_start_rec to open the soundcard again after I do ad_stop_rec ad_close after a number of iterations of this then the recognition won't be very good, and I think its because I wind up messing up the silence or something in the cont module. If I take these two pairs of code out it runs fine on my sblive, but then Festival's open fails on the half-duplex soundcard. I thought I'd see if anyone else had tried to do something like this and had success before I poked too much more deeply into the library code (I already poked around some, in addition to reading the headers, examples, and trying to see if anyone else had asked this quesiton (harder without search on the forums)).
Any help, suggestions, or educated guesses would be appreciated.

Well, 5 seconds after I hit post I saw the search button off on the left (of course it was after and not before), and searched for half duplex and duplex, but didn't find any mention of a problem like I'm describing in either forum.
