i am also facing the same problem these days ... first i need to confirm whether the given "goforward.16k" works or not ... can anybody tell me how to listen that file ... using Linux 7.2 ....

yes you can send files that contain audio data to sphinx II. Look at the batch mode demo and sphinx-test.
I play audio files with the play command (try play --help) which I believe is available on RH systems. If you have ALSA I believe there is an aplay command.
