To improve my recognition accuracy I'm looking into normalizing my audio.

    Like was proposed at thread:
    https://sourceforge.net/p/cmusphinx/discussion/help/thread/9e85fd2f/#a09b/818b/309f/1e60/642f/eee6/d7ac/73d9/df30/0cf9/6d9b/737b/7cc2/cfc3/d580/0ec8

First thing I need to know more about the definition 'normalize' audio.

So, (with an audio example from Audacity) does this mean
1.expand the amplitude to 0db (or -1db like audacity does when normalizing)
2.or do I need to bring the center of the amplitude up?

You can learn many things from Wikipedia

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_normalization

1.expand the amplitude to 0db (or -1db like audacity does when normalizing)

      Yes

2.or do I need to bring the center of the amplitude up?

I have no idea what do you mean by a "center of the amplitude"

        Nickolay,

        Thanks for the info.

I've been reading a lot about audio and normalization, including wiki's.
I just want to be sure I have interpreted it properly.

I have no idea what do you mean by a "center of the amplitude"

I meant like the -36db 'as center' on the following image

So, statement is probably wrong?: do I need to bring the center of the amplitude up?

You should have used words in more straightforward manner.

So, statement is probably wrong?: do I need to bring the center of the amplitude up?

First of all I do not see a statement, I see a qustion. And the question for me is simply meaningless, in particular "center of the amplitude". Amplitude is a quantity, it has no "center". The Audacity mark might be at center, but it is not a "center of amplitude".

            Sorry for mixing up/missing words.

I already had my answer how to approach normalization, thanks for that.

PS: i meant the statemeant 'I need to bring the center of the amplitude up' , but surely the reference wasn't clear anough.
